Job Title: Maintenance Manager

Location: Cowgate / Grassmarket, Edinburgh

Reports to: General Manager

Employment Type: Full-time

About the Role

We are looking for a reliable and hands-on Maintenance Manager to oversee all maintenance and facility operations within our hostel. This role ensures the building, rooms, common areas, and equipment are safe, functional, and well-presented for our guests and staff. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a proactive approach to property upkeep. Very knowledgeable about UK health & safety.

Key Responsibilities

General Maintenance

· Carry out day-to-day repairs across the hostel (plumbing, electrical, joinery, painting, fixtures, appliances).

· Conduct routine inspections of guest rooms, bathrooms, kitchens, public areas, and staff facilities.

· Respond quickly to maintenance requests or breakdowns reported by staff or guests.

Preventative Maintenance

· Implement a planned preventive maintenance (PPM) schedule for all building systems.

· Monitor and maintain heating, ventilation, water systems, lighting, and safety equipment.

· Record all work completed and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Health & Safety

· Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health & safety regulations and fire safety procedures.

· Check emergency lighting, fire doors, alarms, extinguishers.

· Report any hazards or risks immediately to Management.

Contractor & Supplier Management

· Coordinate and supervise external contractors for specialised works.

· Obtain quotes and ensure value for money on repairs, materials, and equipment.

· Maintain stock of tools, consumables, and spare parts.

Record Keeping

Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, including tasks completed, materials used and costs

Physical fitness

Must be able to perform manual labour, such as lifting, bending and standing for long periods

Communication

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and good use of Microsoft office and familiar with app usage for business improvement.

Hostel Operations Support

· Assist with room setups, furniture assembly, and small refurbishment projects.

· Support the team during emergencies or urgent maintenance needs.

Shift Patterns

5 out 7 days, early shifts and late shifts and when business required. you will have a team of 2 maintenance assistant staff to manage.

Pay: From £28,000.00 per year
