Role Overview and Purpose
The Modern Workplace Team Leader at Voyage Care is a hands-on technical leadership role, responsible for overseeing the Modern Workplace Specialist team and ensuring the effective design, implementation, and support of Modern Workplace technologies across the organisation. This position is pivotal in driving the digital transformation agenda, promoting productivity, collaboration, and secure communication for all staff. The Team Leader acts as a subject matter expert, trusted advisor, and primary point of escalation for Modern Workplace matters, championing best practices in cloud adoption, security, change management, and employee engagement through Microsoft 365 and associated platforms.
Reporting to the Head of Infrastructure and Services, the Modern Workplace Team Leader collaborates closely with business stakeholders, IT leadership, and end users to analyse business requirements, identify opportunities for improvement, and ensure that solutions delivered align with Voyage Care's strategic objectives. The Team Leader provides technical guidance, mentorship, and direction to the Modern Workplace team, ensuring operational excellence, a superior user experience, and continuous improvement in service delivery. The role also involves resource planning, performance management, and fostering a culture of innovation and professional development within the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead, coach, and develop the Modern Workplace Specialist team, ensuring a high level of performance, engagement, and continuous learning. Set clear objectives, conduct regular one-to-ones, provide feedback, and support professional growth.
- Service Delivery & Technical Oversight: Oversee the configuration, maintenance, and optimisation of Microsoft 365 services (Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive for Business) and related Modern Workplace technologies. Ensure the team adheres to best practice and organisational standards for service delivery.
- Project & Change Management: Coordinate and lead Modern Workplace projects, including deployments, upgrades, and migrations. Manage change effectively, ensuring robust communication with stakeholders and minimal disruption to business operations.
- Escalation Point & Problem Resolution: Serve as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues regarding Modern Workplace topics, providing advanced troubleshooting and ensuring timely resolution. Liaise with vendors and third-party support where necessary.
- Cloud Security & Compliance: Oversee the implementation and monitoring of security measures across Microsoft 365 and Azure environments regarding Modern Workplace topics. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements, specifically those relevant to the care sector.
- Device & Endpoint Management: Direct the team in managing devices using Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Intune), Microsoft Autopilot, Samsung Knox, and Apple Business Manager. Oversee policy compliance, device lifecycle management, and efficient onboarding/offboarding processes.
- Collaboration & Productivity Solutions: Lead the design and delivery of solutions that enhance collaboration and productivity using Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and related tools. Drive adoption and champion innovative use of Modern Workplace platforms.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with business stakeholders, understanding their needs and ensuring that Modern Workplace solutions deliver tangible business value. Communicate technical concepts effectively to non-technical audiences.
- Documentation & Training: Oversee the creation and maintenance of comprehensive documentation and training materials. Ensure the team delivers effective training sessions to end users and IT staff.
- Continuous Improvement: Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, encouraging the team to propose and implement enhancements to technology, processes, and user experience.
- Resource & Performance Management: Plan and allocate team resources effectively. Monitor performance against KPIs and SLAs, and report on service metrics to IT leadership.
- Other Duties: Undertake additional duties and responsibilities commensurate with the role, as required by the organisation.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Education: Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (desirable).
- Certifications: Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate, Teams Administrator Associate, Security Administrator Associate, or equivalent (highly desirable).
- Leadership Experience: Proven experience in leading technical teams in a Modern Workplace, Microsoft 365, or cloud-focused environment.
- Technical Proficiency: Deep expertise in Microsoft 365 administration, Azure cloud services, device management tools (Intune, Autopilot, Samsung Knox, Apple Business Manager), and Modern Workplace platforms.
- Project Management: Experience managing technical projects and change initiatives, with strong organisational and stakeholder management skills.
- Analytical & Problem-Solving: Advanced analytical and troubleshooting abilities for diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues.
- Innovation: Strong track record of proposing and implementing innovative technology solutions.
- Security & Compliance: In-depth understanding of cloud security, compliance frameworks, and regulatory requirements in the care sector.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Customer Focus: Demonstrated commitment to exceptional customer service and user experience.
- Professional Development: Commitment to ongoing learning and staying current with emerging technologies.
