Role Overview

The
Production Manager
plays a pivotal role in the
planning, coordination, and delivery
of live sports broadcasts - ensuring every production is delivered
on time, on budget, and to the highest editorial and technical standards
.

You'll be the
central link
between production, editorial, technical teams, and clients - managing all logistics from
pre-production through to live transmission and post-event wrap-up
.

This role demands both
strategic oversight
and
on-the-ground adaptability
, with a focus on risk management, financial control, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Management

  • Lead and manage all logistical, financial, and operational aspects of live sports productions.
  • Develop detailed production schedules, call sheets, and logistics plans.
  • Manage travel, accommodation, and accreditation for crews and talent.
  • Liaise with event organisers, rights holders, and broadcasters to ensure compliance with production requirements.
  • Mentor Production Coordinators and Assistants, supporting their development.
  • Report production and planning risks to your line manager.

Budgeting & Financial Control

  • Create, manage, and reconcile production budgets.
  • Negotiate rates with freelancers, suppliers, and facilities providers.
  • Process purchase orders, expenses, and cost reports in line with company policies.
  • Ensure all third parties are contracted according to HMRC guidelines.
  • Report monthly financials to accounts and escalate any financial risks to management.

Technical & Operational Coordination

  • Work closely with technical teams on OB (Outside Broadcast) requirements including galleries, cameras, comms, and connectivity.
  • Oversee health and safety compliance and risk assessments at live venues.
  • Ensure correct insurance, permits, and clearances are in place.
  • Manage release forms for any on-camera contributors (including comms and presentation staff).

Team & Talent Management

  • Hire and manage production staff, freelancers, runners, and coordinators.
  • Schedule and brief on-screen talent and commentators.
  • Foster strong communication across production, editorial, and technical teams.

On-Site & Live Event Duties

  • Act as the main point of contact on-site for logistical and operational issues.
  • Troubleshoot and adapt quickly to live broadcast challenges.
  • Oversee post-event debriefs and ensure lessons learned are captured.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven experience in
    live sports production management
    .
  • Strong skills in
    production planning, workflow management, and logistics coordination
    .
  • Excellent
    communication, problem-solving, and organisational
    abilities.
  • Confidence managing
    budgets, schedules, and cross-functional teams
    .
  • Familiarity with
    remote production technology
    or live broadcast workflows is an advantage.
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in
    Production, Operations Management, or a related field
    .
