The role

The University of Bristol has a strong reputation in computer architecture that has its roots in the Inmos Transputer and is grounded in the strong ecosystem of innovative design that permeates Bristol's industrial and academic culture. Bristol has been a major UK centre for high-performance computing, and has strengths in numerous related architecture-facing disciplines, including but not limited to high-performance computing. hardware cryptography, trustworthy systems, cybersecurity, and physical computing systems design. Our infrastructure supports disciplines ranging from engineering and physics to life sciences, climate modelling, machine learning and computer vision, and wider data-driven research. Colleagues in the newly established Bristol Centre for Supercomputing (BriCS) operate the recent government funded £225m Isambard-AI supercomputer.

The School of Computer Science is now excited to be recruiting a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (teaching-Focused position) to strengthen our education provision in architecture. The appointee will play an active role in providing outstanding and innovative teaching across Computer Science, with a focus on computer architecture, but whose interdisciplinary specialism may be drawn from across the full breadth of our research interests. We particularly welcome candidates interested in developing innovative ways of integrating teaching and technology development.

What will you be doing?

You will be expected to take an active role in providing high quality and innovative teaching in the school in the area of computer architecture, as well as core areas of computer science such as programming and mathematics units. This will include lecture courses, problem classes, laboratories as well as co-supervising group and individual projects, at both undergraduate and postgraduate (taught) levels.

You will be expected to contribute to the effective running of the School and Faculty.

You should apply if

A track record of high-quality teaching at university level and the ability to undertake teaching in computer architecture.

A track record developing teaching material and lead teaching team.

An interest in developing innovative ways of integrating teaching, research and technology development.

A commitment to impart knowledge to undergraduate and postgraduate students in an enthusiastic and effective manner.

A PhD, or close to completion of a PhD, in Computer Science or a closely related discipline, or extensive relevant industrial/commercial experience.
