Social Work Assessor

Our Parenting Assessments are individually tailored according to the needs of the family, with a focus upon 'the Framework for the Assessment of Children in Need and their Families' and the parents' ability to safeguard and promote the welfare of their child. The wellbeing of the children is our primary focus, ensuring that the baby or child's needs are met at all times.
The purpose of the Social Worker role:
To undertake a comprehensive and in depth independent Parenting Assessments on a residential basis, and when required on a day and community basis;
To ensure that the needs of babies/children are being promoted and that their safety and wellbeing is being upheld;
To work as part of a team in supporting Parents in developing the skills to parent successfully and live independently;
To coordinate placements/assessments and specific exit plans, as well as detailed plans of work for each family on your caseload, using assessment tools and up to date guidance;
To write reports and attend Court as required, ensuring the contribution of the team is incorporated into the assessment, outcomes and recommendations;
To plan and undertake direct work with children and families as required, considering and analysing information to include in reports ad assessments.
To organise placement review meetings, and chair and minute the meetings. Attend Lac Reviews, Core Group meetings and CP meetings as required.
To liaise with Local Authority Social Workers, Children's Guardians and solicitors and provide regular updates via concise and focussed summaries of placement;;
To liaise with families, other professionals and agencies;
To act as a consultant to other Staff Members, and provide advice and support based within social work experience and theory, using sensitivity and relationship based approach;
To ensure that the Residential Family Centre regulations and National Minimum Standards and organisational policies and procedures are implemented.
We are looking for:
- Skills, knowledge, abilities:
1.1 Knowledge and understanding of the Assessment Framework, and the ability to carry out complex parenting assessments and complete comprehensive well written reports, which are evidence based and analytical;
1.2 Knowledge of Parenting skills and strategies, and the abilities to support Parents in delivering these, and engaging them in their plans;
1.3 Understanding and knowledge of the needs of Young Parents or Parents-to-be;
1.4 Understanding and knowledge of some of the difficulties that may impair parenting abilities, such as learning difficulties, experience of care, mental health, substance misuse, and abilities to support parents in addressing difficulties.
1.5 Expertise and understanding of child development and attachment theory;
1.6 Expertise and understanding of child protection;
1.7 Effective interpersonal skills, and the ability to engage, and communicate effectively with Parents and Young children; alongside a kind, epithetic nature.
1.8 Excellent written skills, and presentation in a timely manner in order to present a positive professional image of the organisation;
1.9 Good IT skills and the ability to produce accurate reports and records;
1.10 The ability to undertake research and contribute to the ongoing development of the service;
1.11 The ability to undertake group work;
1.12 The ability to demonstrate initiative, develop ideas and plan, deliver and evaluate effective work with families;
1.13 The ability to advocate and work closely with other professionals, families and agencies on behalf of Families;
1.14 Knowledge of the agencies and bodies involved in the provision of services for families and the ability to be part of multi-agency working;
1.15 The ability to work in a non-discriminatory way and with respect and positive regard for families and colleagues;
1.16 Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and guidance;
1.17 Ability to maintain health and safety at work;
1.18 Understanding and knowledge of team working and group dynamics, and the ability to work as a team member;
1.19 Ability to give appropriate guidance and support to colleagues through discussions and team working, acting in a consultant role in relation to aspects of direct work;
- Experience:
2.1 Minimum of 2 years relevant experience of working within statutory child care work;
2.2 Experience of giving evidence in Court for care proceedings
2.3 Experience of carrying out in-depth parenting assessments;
2.4 Experience of undertaking direct work with individuals and in undertaking group work;
2.5 Experience of multi-agency, multi-professional working;
- Qualifications and Training:
Social Work qualification (Degree, DipSW or equivalent), and preferably post qualifying award.
- Other:
4.1. Social Work England registration, and a commitment to ensure continued registration;
4.2. A willingness to work flexibly including occasional evenings, and weekends if required;
4.3. A commitment to being involved in, and ensuring a high quality service is provided at all times;
4.2 A commitment to Continuous Professional Development and life-long learning;
4.3 A commitment to providing a positive role model to Parents and colleagues;
4.4 A current Driving Licence and the use of a car, or an ability to travel;
4.5 A satisfactory Enhanced DBS Disclosure;
