About Camden
Camden is changing on the inside to make life better for everyone. Our residents and communities are at the heart of everything we do. We're home to the most important conversations happening today and we're making radical social change a reality, so that nobody gets left behind.  Here's where you can help decide a better future for us all.

What You'll Be Doing

The Multi-Skilled Engineering Operative plays a vital role in supporting the safe and efficient operation of Camden's schools and commercial buildings. The position involves carrying out a wide range of planned, reactive, and project-based maintenance tasks to ensure properties remain in excellent condition.

This role requires adaptability across multiple trades, including mechanical, electrical, and fabric works, and offers opportunities for training and development towards formal trade qualifications. The post-holder will work in occupied properties and operational Council buildings, delivering services to a high standard of quality, safety, and customer satisfaction, ensuring all works are completed "Right First Time."

The successful candidate will use their skills and judgment to diagnose building faults and determine the best solutions to resolve repair problems. This is a varied and rewarding role that combines technical expertise with problem-solving and customer service.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.

All About You
To find out more about what it is like to work at Camden, meet some of our People by visiting ''.
You will have broad practical experience in building maintenance across multiple trades, such as plumbing, basic electrical work, carpentry, and fabric repairs. A willingness to train towards formal trade qualifications in mechanical, electrical, or fabric disciplines is essential, and experience in reactive maintenance and planned preventative maintenance within schools or commercial environments would be an advantage. You should be familiar with Health and Safety standards, including lone working, manual handling, working at height, asbestos awareness, and COSHH, and be prepared to undertake any necessary training. Knowledge of CAFM systems and a positive attitude toward developing digital reporting skills are desirable.

The role requires someone who can work independently, troubleshoot issues effectively, and take ownership of resolving defects, while also being a strong team player in a multi-skilled environment. Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues in simple terms are important, along with a commitment to learning and professional development.

A minimum of ten years' trade experience is required. While formal qualifications are not essential, you should be keen to work towards NVQ Level 3 and undertake relevant trade training and certifications as part of your development. Health and Safety training, such as safeguarding, asbestos awareness, manual handling, and L8 compliance, is desirable but can be provided. A clean and valid UK driving licence is essential for this role.
