JOB PROFILE DESCRIPTION

As an AWS Lead Platform Engineer (Consultant), you'll be responsible for leading teams to design, automate, build, manage and optimise modern platforms. You'll join our dedicated EDM product team as we build something that lasts - and we want you to be part of it. It's a fast-paced environment and you'll be trusted to make sound, reasoned decisions. You'll do this whilst learning about new technologies and approaches, with colleagues that will help you to learn, develop and grow. You'll deepen your expertise with long-term challenges and real-world scale. As the technical leader in the team, you will also interact with customers, share knowledge and mentor those around you.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Working as part of a team – You'll work alongside colleagues in engineering, testing, consulting, product management and security capabilities to build, test and deploy software of the highest quality, including the operation and continuous improvement of underlying platform services.

  • AWS Expertise – Design and implement scalable, reliable, and secure cloud architecture on AWS.

  • Providing Technical Leadership – You'll provide direction and leadership for your team as you solve challenging problems together on delivery and support projects.

  • Using technology for positive impact – You'll ensure the latest technologies are employed appropriately and aligned with industry best practices for maximum user and business benefit.

  • Being objectively opinionated – As a respected voice within Kainos and beyond, you'll offer your opinion and critique to improve our solutions. You'll proactively share knowledge internally within Kainos and more widely in industry.

  • Becoming a Role Model – You'll support your colleagues and foster a DevOps culture in all that you do by embodying the Kainos values. You'll be a person your colleagues look up to – people trust your decisions because they are transparent and justified. You'll be passionate and committed to ensuring Kainos projects are successful.

MINIMUM (ESSENTIAL) REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, with the ability to simply and clearly communicate technical design (or significant portions thereof) in conversation, documentation and presentation to a technical and non-technical audience.

  • We all work in teams here in Kainos – You'll need a proven experience of team leadership and supporting a DevOps culture in delivering and/or supporting complex projects.

  • Significant expertise in:

    • AWS and Terraform – you have a broad know-how around how applications and services are constructed using the AWS platform with Terraform.

    • Designing, building, testing, automating, monitoring and/or operating, enhancing and improving reliability of modern digital service platform in production environments.

    • Using the latest Continuous Delivery and automation techniques for releasing operationally ready software to production, including platform orchestration using multiple configuration management tools.

  • Demonstrable experience in:

    • Building and/or supporting modern digital service platforms to include architecture, design, estimation, planning and iteration on MVP using a modern agile approach.

    • Championing best practice use of Site Reliability Engineering tooling, techniques and processes to manage and improve existing platform services. E.g. monitoring, platform modernisation and cost optimisation.

    • Use of AWS cloud platform including SaaS or PaaS offerings to solve business problems.

DESIRABLE

  • Obtained AWS SysOps Administrator, DevOps Engineer or Solutions Architect certification.

  • Obtained Terraform Associate certification.

  • Obtained certification relating to a particular area of specialisation e.g. Networking, Security.
