Live-In Carer
About the role
As a Live-in Carer with Eximius Support, you will live in the client's home and provide high-quality, person-centred care that promotes dignity, independence and choice. You will follow each client's assessed care plan and deliver the kind of practical and emotional support a family member might reasonably provide. This role does not include tasks that must be performed by a registered nurse.
What you'll do
- Support with daily living: getting up/going to bed, dressing, washing, bathing and continence care.
- Assist with mobility and the use of personal aids and equipment.
- Provide compassionate support to clients who are temporarily unwell or receiving end-of-life care, including help with eating and drinking.
- Encourage mental and physical wellbeing through conversation, hobbies, activities, outings and companionship.
- Prepare and serve meals; set trays/tables; supervise safe food preparation and storage; clear away and wash up.
- Carry out light household tasks: making/changing beds, light cleaning, emptying commodes, general tidying; launder/inspect/mend clothes as needed.
- Record care accurately in the PASS digital care system every day (no handwritten notes); contribute to reviews and reports.
- Prompt/assist with medication in line with the care plan and support clients to self-administer wherever possible.
- Liaise professionally with families, colleagues, health professionals and other agencies; escalate any significant changes in health or circumstances to the Field Care Supervisor or Office Manager.
- Provide overnight support as reasonably required and communicate effectively with other Companions allocated to the client.
- Offer empathetic emotional support and help with appointments and reminders.
Delegated healthcare tasks (after training & competency sign-off)
Depending on the client's needs, you may be trained and assessed as competent to perform delegated tasks such as:
PEG care, neurogenic bowel/bladder management, stoma and catheter care, respiratory support, tissue viability/pressure area care, and recognising/acting on autonomic dysreflexia.
About you
You are self-motivated, well-organised and genuinely caring, with excellent communication skills and a person-centred approach. You use your initiative, uphold equality and anti-discriminatory practice, and complete required documentation to a high standard. Flexibility around placement patterns is essential.
Must-haves
- Current UK driving licence (driver required); access to your own transport is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to provide dignified personal care and promote independence.
- Confidence using digital care records (training provided on PASS).
- Right to work in the UK. We cannot accept applications that require visa sponsorship.
- Willingness to complete training and competencies for delegated healthcare tasks.
- Commitment to confidentiality (Data Protection Act 1998/UK GDPR) and to working safely under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
Nice-to-haves
- Additional languages.
- Previous live-in/complex care experience.
Safeguarding & compliance
All offers are subject to satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS check. You must uphold Eximius policies and procedures at all times.
How to apply
If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you. Please send your CV and a brief cover note outlining your driving status and right to work in the UK to our Recruitment Team, or apply via the Eximius Support careers page.
