Joining Arup

Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

We are looking for a Human Experience Integrated Service Leader, responsible for developing our work in Human Experience and taking our integrated service to market.

At Arup we are committed to Total Design – taking a holistic and cross-disciplinary approach to our work, to tackle building the best team for the task and supporting our clients from before project inception through the full project lifecycle. Our work delivers value for our clients and the planet through striving for excellence and innovation.

The Opportunity

Our work spans the iconic and the unconventional, from delivering first-class passenger experience as well as art, branding, and digital experience programs at airports, designing a workplace for neurodivergent people, using evidence-based design to create safer and more inclusive environments at night, and expressing brand identity through digital experiences, to a world class expertise in immersive experiences in arts, culture & entertainment.

We view Human Experience in the built environment through four lenses: productivity, safety, wellbeing and identity – with clear market and client opportunities across each.

You will be part of the Technical Specialist Services, a team of 600 experts spread across the UK, India, Africa and the Middle East, representing 15 specialist practices. Our teams collaborate to create solutions for some of the world's greatest design challenges, bringing an unparalleled breadth and depth of expertise to all parts of the built and natural environments.

As an Integrated Service leader, you will be empowered to take an ambitious approach to work-winning growing our business across the built environment where a holistic consideration of human experience is crucial to the best design outcomes and impact. You'll monitor market trends and competitor activities and create opportunities for other Arup teams and other collaborators that align with our values and supplement our expertise.

You will lead the way we can offer our clients a single holistic viewpoint while being a driver of integrated thinking and outcomes working with the diverse technical disciplines within Technical Specialist Services and within Arup more broadly. You will work dynamically with cohorts brought together to work in a 'studio' approach, drawn from across different disciplines according to the specific needs of the client.

As an experienced and collaborative leader you'll grow this service, lead projects and expand our client base. You'll maintain your own established network, to whom this new and holistic approach to the market would be of interest. You will provide thought leadership and build market awareness of the Human Experience expertise within Arup with internal and external stakeholders.

We're committed to holistic and cross-disciplinary approach to our work, building the best team for the task and supporting our clients from before project inception through the full project lifecycle. Our work delivers value for our clients and the planet through striving for excellence and innovation.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role for you?

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Proven track record of work winning and strategic business development to deliver growth
  • Significant experience in business development and client relationship management, potentially for new services, including high value clients and projects
  • Proven track record in bringing cross-disciplinary teams together to create productive, collaborative environments and best-in-class results
  • A passion for diversity, recognising the innovation and competitive edge that comes from a diverse, highly skilled team where equal opportunities are truly valued
  • A focus on customer satisfaction and high-quality service delivery, with strong interpersonal skills and responsiveness
  • Ability to lead and inspire across diverse perspectives of deep domain expertise to achieve goals that are greater than the sum of their parts and delivered in a way to best respond to the needs and ambitions of our clients
  • The ability to empower others to succeed, giving staff the confidence and support to thrive, develop and excel at what they do
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills with both non-technical and technical audiences, managing stakeholders
  • Evidence of industry recognition of this work in the form of awards, publications, speaking and press appearances
  • Knowledge of the built environment sector
  • Awareness of key policy and legislation impacting the Heritage sector in the UK, and preferably Middle East, Africa, India and Europe
  • A track record of communicating successfully with governance-bodies or project boards and stakeholders
  • Previous experience shaping and enhancing Human Experience in the built environment
