Co-Director for Engagement, Hub for Quantum Computing via Integrated and Interconnected Implementations
2 weeks ago
The Department of Physics seeks a Co-Director for Engagement to play a leading role in the work of the EPSRC Hub for Quantum Computing via Integrated and Interconnected Implementations (QCi3 Hub).
The postholder will be part of the Hub's senior leadership team, responsible for the engagement activities of QCi3 Hub, which includes managing relations with the Hub's named and unnamed partners (encompassing industry, governmental and other organisations), and facilitating and supporting the commercialisation of Hub research. They will also be responsible for the Hub's communications and event activities.
The QCi3 Hub is a strategic collaboration of 18 universities and research institutions, supported by 27 industrial partners, which is focused on taking quantum computing from the lab to the real world. The QCi3 Hub is a new project, building on the work of the last ten years undertaken in the Networked Quantum Information Technologies (NQIT) and Quantum Computing & Simulation (QCS) Hubs, as part of the UK's National Quantum Technologies Programme (NQTP). We have a superb team of scientists, engineers, professional support staff and students working on software and demonstration hardware small-scale quantum processors and simulators, and critical technologies for fully scalable machines. Much of the effort at Oxford is located in the Beecroft building opened in
The postholder will report into the QCi3 Hub Director, and will line manage both the Hub's Technology Associate and Communications & Events Manager. The team also has a Senior Programme Manager and Administrative Assistant, with whom the postholder will work closely.
Our team welcomes applications from people with caring responsibilities, and we are flexible to family and other commitments.
The successful candidate will hold a relevant first degree in physical science or engineering and be a recognised leader able to represent the project nationally and internationally. They will understand the scientific fields central to the Hub's work—including quantum physics, communications and systems engineering, computer science and quantum materials—and how academic research is carried out. They will have experience with the UK's National Quantum Technologies Programme and a proven ability to identify and support scientific developments with strong commercial potential. A strong track record in technology transfer, innovation and business development is essential, along with the ability to lead complex negotiations and influence a wide range of academic, commercial and collaborative partners. The candidate will be a strategic thinker who can guide the project towards impactful national outcomes and will demonstrate commitment to good practice and an inclusive working environment
Experience of preparing funding applications and understanding intellectual property and contractual issues in scientific research is desirable but not essential.
Please direct enquiries about the role to Director, QCI3 Hub
Only applications received before midday 11 December 2025 can be considered. You will be required to upload a supporting statement, CV and details of two referees as part of your online application.
