Description

The Academic Registrar will work directly with the Academic Director, and is the most senior role in the Academic Office under the Director. A fundamental function of this role is to act as a credible and accomplished Deputy to the Academic Director in all aspects of the Academic Office. They will have a team of four to assist them in conducting their responsibilities.

Specifically, the Registrar will have responsibility for:

  • Early-Career Researchers, including postgraduates (supported by a Graduate Administrator): academic administration for on-course postgraduate students, and will be key in developing the postdoctoral and postgraduate experience in this key area within College;
  • Admissions (supported by an Admissions Officer and Access Officer): managing the admissions process for undergraduates and taking a part in the admissions process for postgraduates;
  • Student disability and finances (supported by a Student Support Officer): will act as the College's Disability Lead, overseeing the provision of support for students with disabilities and individual requirements;
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion considerations for students: taking an active role in the College EDI Committee and advising on issues relating to student provision.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential skills and experience

  • A Master's level qualification, and ability to relate with the demands placed on the graduate community;
  • Proven ability to confidently deal with a variety of people at all levels of an organisation, and with those beyond such as applicants, schools, parents, and external bodies;
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise judgement and take initiative;
  • Ability to deal with a wide range of responsibilities and with casework arising from the day-to-day functioning of the College as well as strategic matters;
  • Proven administrative skills, including evidence of operating at a senior level;
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure, prioritising work and meeting competing deadlines;
  • Evidence of working in an organised and methodical manner, with accuracy and excellent attention to detail;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to act as Secretary/minute taker at senior meetings;
  • Excellent team-working skills and ability to work co-operatively with others and build constructive relationships;
  • The ability to deal with sensitive and confidential matters with discretion;
  • Ability to supervise the work of staff;
  • Excellent IT skills.

Desirable

  • PhD/DPhil qualification;
  • Experience of working in an academic setting;
  • Experience of working with postgraduates and/or early-career researchers.
