Widecombe in the Moor, Devon, United Kingdom Free-Work UK Full time £60,000 - £100,000 per year

At CGI, we're helping to shape the future of digital healthcare across the UK, and we're looking for Senior Platform Engineers to join our growing Platform Services team. You'll play a key role in designing, building, and evolving a cloud-native platform that underpins major national healthcare programmes, enabling teams to innovate faster and deliver secure, high-impact digital services for millions of people. Working within a collaborative, forward-thinking environment, you'll have the autonomy to deliver scalable and resilient infrastructure that drives transformative outcomes across the health sector, all while being supported to grow your expertise and influence the future of digital health.

CGI was recognised in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work List 2025 and has been named a UK 'Best Employer' by the Financial Times. We offer a competitive salary, excellent pension, private healthcare, plus a share scheme (3.5% + 3.5% matching) which makes you a CGI Partner not just an employee. We are committed to inclusivity, building a genuinely diverse community of tech talent and inspiring everyone to pursue careers in our sector, including our Armed Forces, and are proud to hold a Gold Award in recognition of our support of the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant. Join us and you'll be part of an open, friendly community of experts. We'll train and support you in taking your career wherever you want it to go.

Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance (BPSS) or be eligible to go through this clearance. We welcome applications from candidates across the UK, and Northern Ireland. Our teams operate within a flexible hybrid working model with the option to work from your local CGI office or remotely, with quarterly travel to Scotland required to collaborate with delivery teams.

Candidate Profile
In this role, you will be part of a cross-functional platform engineering team delivering the core infrastructure and services that support large-scale digital health systems across the UK. You'll design, implement, and operate secure, cloud-native solutions on AWS that enable development teams to innovate with confidence and deliver modern, patient-focused digital services. You'll collaborate closely with developers, architects, and delivery teams to streamline CI/CD pipelines, strengthen observability, and embed automation at every layer of the platform.

You'll take ownership of key technical decisions, contribute to platform strategy and best practices, and help evolve a modern, resilient, and scalable ecosystem. Supported by a culture that values creativity, collaboration, and continuous learning, you'll be encouraged to explore emerging technologies, share knowledge, and continuously enhance both the platform and your technical expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Deliver: Architect, build, and optimise AWS-based, cloud-native platforms supporting national-scale digital healthcare solutions.
  • Automate & Innovate: Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or CloudFormation for repeatable, reliable deployments.
  • Monitor & Improve: Enhance observability using Grafana, Prometheus, and related tooling to ensure system reliability and performance.
  • Develop & Integrate: Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions to streamline secure and efficient delivery.
  • Script & Enhance: Use Bash or PowerShell to automate operational processes and drive efficiency.
  • Collaborate & Evolve: Work within agile, cross-functional teams to drive platform evolution and shared delivery goals.
  • Optimise & Protect: Design and support high availability and disaster recovery capabilities for critical services.
  • Document & Share: Produce high-quality technical documentation and contribute to knowledge sharing across CGI teams.

Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role
You should bring significant hands-on experience designing, delivering, and operating large-scale, cloud-native platforms on AWS, with strong expertise in Kubernetes and modern DevOps practices. You'll be a collaborative engineer who thrives in agile, self-organising teams and is passionate about continuous improvement, automation, and innovation.

Essential Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge and experience of AWS cloud-native services and architectures.
  • Strong experience with Kubernetes for container orchestration and management.
  • Proven experience implementing Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Hands-on experience with observability tools such as Grafana and Prometheus.
  • Strong scripting ability using tools such as Bash or PowerShell.
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions.
  • Deep understanding of scalability, performance, and security in distributed systems.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills in cross-functional environments.

Desirable

  • Some coding experience in or Python.
  • Experience designing or supporting disaster recovery and high availability systems.
  • AWS and/or Kubernetes certifications.
  • Strong technical documentation and knowledge-sharing skills.
  • Experience working within healthcare client environments (or similar)
