Are you passionate about protecting tenants' rights and leading impactful enforcement work in the private rented sector? We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Tenancy Relations Team Leader dedicated to protecting tenants' rights to join our Private Sector Housing Team.

This is a pivotal role to join the service, as the Renters' Rights Act introduces a wide-ranging transformation of tenancy law. The successful candidate will play a key role in implementing and enforcing new statutory duties including enhanced protections against unlawful eviction, harassment and unfair rent increases. You will lead a team of Tenancy Relations Officers, overseeing complex investigations, enforcement actions, and strategic service delivery. You will be a lead officer and technical expert in tenancy law, ensuring legal compliance and safeguarding residents from unlawful eviction and harassment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build, lead and manage a team of Tenancy Relations Officers.
  • Oversee investigations under the Protection from Eviction Act and Renters Rights Act.
  • Manage enforcement actions including prosecutions, civil penalties, and court applications.
  • Provide expert advice to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure service delivery meets statutory obligations and performance targets.

You will have:

  • Substantial knowledge of landlord and tenant law.
  • Proven experience in tenancy investigations, mediation, and enforcement.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to work in high-risk environments and manage health and safety.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
  • Experience in policy development, strategic planning, and partnership working.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Professional training in tenancy relations and tenancy law.
  • Minimum 5 GCSEs including Maths and English.
  • Experience managing and supporting a team and driving service improvements.

The post holders will be highly motivated, flexible individuals, with excellent customer service skills, able to communicate with people at different levels as appropriate. You will be working with and supporting other team members with complex cases.

Benefits include flexible, hybrid working, 25 days annual leave increasing to 28 days after 5 years and 30 days after 10 years of continuous Local Government service.

This is a full-time position, working 35 hours per week on a permanent contract.
