The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our laboratory-based team in Macclesfield, UK. In this role, you will perform essential laboratory support activities in accordance with agreed-upon procedures and timelines, ensuring the operational readiness and smooth functioning of scientific environments.

** A scientific background or experience is not essential, but would be an advantage for this role. We welcome candidates from a variety of backgrounds who are looking to transition into a scientific environment. **

This is a full-time, permanent position based at our site in Macclesfield. In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes a bonus scheme, pension plan, private medical and dental care, and even an extra day off on your birthday.

Site location: Charter Way, Silk Road Business Park, Macclesfield, Cheshire, SK10 2NA

Working hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 3:00pm

The Team

You'll be part of a small team of 4 associates, with daily engagement with a wider on-site, laboratory-based team.

This role is part of our Lab and Production Services department, which supports leading pharmaceutical companies and laboratories worldwide, helping to advance research and development in the Life Sciences industry.

What we're looking for

Education: GCSEs in English & maths are required

Experience:

  • Knowledge of Health & Safety, laboratory operations and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is advantageous
  • Understanding & experience of customer-facing service, including roles in hospitality, retail, or warehouse settings
  • Strong IT proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and inventory/tracking systems
  • Excellent time-management skills and attention to detail

How you'll thrive and create an impact

  • Perform routine laboratory support tasks, including general housekeeping, equipment performance checks, weighing and dispensing, glassware washing, and equipment cleaning
  • Manage laboratory waste streams, ensuring all waste is handled according to agreed processes and delivered to the waste service provider with correct documentation and labelling
  • Use Avantor Inventory Management systems daily to maintain the supply of chemicals and consumables across multiple labs/buildings
  • Provide a high level of customer service, actively engaging with the science community to understand their business requirements
  • Adhere to all Health and Safety regulations and promote this ethos within the broader Avantor team
