About the Role

You will provide expert legal advice and support across a wide range of property-related matters within the housing association sector. This includes conveyancing, property security charging, disrepair claims, compliance and general legal matters. You will manage a varied caseload, ensure legal compliance, and support strategic property transactions – helping Selwood Housing operate effectively, safely, and in line with best practice.

What you'll do:

• Advise on and manage legal aspects of property charging for funding and refinancing purposes.

• Advise on land law matters such as easements, covenants, land registration, and property transactions.

• Handle some property sales, disposals, and leasehold transactions.

• Draft, negotiate, and review contracts, transfers, leases, and licences.

• Manage and defend disrepair claims brought against the association.

• Work closely with housing management and maintenance teams to investigate and resolve claims.

• Ensure legal compliance with housing, property, and regulatory law including GDPR, consumer credit, and environmental regulations.

• Provide legal advice to internal teams including development, housing management, and finance.

What we're looking for:

We're looking for someone who shares our values:

Customer driven
– Your legal expertise will help us protect the organisation, so we can continue providing safe, secure homes for our customers.

Accountability
– You'll take ownership of your caseload, make confident evidence-based decisions, and safeguard the organisation's interest whilst enabling positive outcome for our customers.

Develop and learn
– We'll support you to continually grow your expertise – building the skills and knowledge that strengthen Selwood Housing's ability to respond to legal and property challenges.

Champion communication
– You'll work closely with colleagues, teams, and stakeholders, ensuring clear, collaborative communication that protects the wider organisation and supports our wider mission.

You'll bring:

• A minimum of 3 years' experience of housing law, property transactions and litigation.

• Qualified solicitor status with valid UK practising certificate.

• Demonstratable strong knowledge of property law.

• Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.

• Membership of relevant professional bodies, such as Housing Law Practitioners Association (HLPA).

• A practical, solution-focused mindset that balances legal risk with operational needs.

• Proven experience supervising junior legal staff or caseworkers, including mentoring and performance management.
