Senior Legal Counsel – Mergers & Acquisitions

London | Hybrid working (3 days in the office)

We're partnering with a global organisation with a strong international footprint across education, infrastructure, and services. The business continues to grow rapidly through strategic acquisitions and investments, and is now seeking a commercially minded M&A lawyer to join its London-based legal team.

The opportunity

This is a key role supporting the General Counsel and senior leadership team on cross-border M&A, joint ventures, and corporate restructuring projects. You'll work closely with the global corporate development and finance teams, advising on all stages of the deal lifecycle, from early-stage evaluation and due diligence to negotiation and post-completion integration.

You'll also support broader group legal initiatives, including governance, risk management, and advising on strategic projects as the organisation continues to expand its international portfolio.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and support on global M&A transactions, investments, and joint ventures
  • Advise on corporate structuring, due diligence, and transaction documentation
  • Partner with internal stakeholders (finance, tax, HR, and operations) to manage deal execution
  • Oversee external counsel engagement and manage transaction budgets
  • Support post-acquisition integration and group restructuring activities
  • Contribute to broader legal team initiatives, process improvement, and training

About you

  • 5-10 years' PQE (as a guide), with a strong grounding in M&A and corporate law
  • Background in a leading law firm and/or in-house M&A role
  • Experience working on cross-border or multi-jurisdictional deals
  • Commercial, pragmatic approach and strong stakeholder management skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, international environment with senior leaders
