What is Ruskin College?
Ruskin College was founded in 1899 to provide education for working class adults.
Our mission is to provide the best level of education and inclusion opportunities to adults – particularly those who may be excluded or disadvantaged – and to transform the individuals concerned along with the communities, groups and societies from which they came. In 2022 the college became part of the University of West London group. At Ruskin we have students from entry level to undergraduate studying a range of subjects. This includes over 2000 students per year on our Trade Union programmes.
The Department
Ruskin College has been working closely with the Union movement for over 100 years. Our partnership continues as we are provide over 50 courses per year to over 2500 union representatives. These courses are delivered face to face at employer sites across London and the South East and online but organised from Ruskin, They provide union representatives with knowledge and skills in the areas of employment law, grievance & disciplines, health & safety regulations & workplace processes and procedures. These courses aim to give representatives the confidence and skills to improve conditions at work for union members.
The Role
We are seeking a self-starter who wants to help create opportunities for adults who want to develop their skills in the Trade Union movements and who is passionate about reducing inequality. This is a unique opportunity to help build the Trade Union programme at Ruskin College and change the lives of thousands of people every year.
The Trade Union Programme Officer will have a pivotal role working with the Trade Union Programme Co-ordinator across all aspect of delivery providing administrative support, reporting, supporting student enrolment, ensuring liaison across internal departments, and key external partners.
The Programme Officer will maintain accurate student data, ensure effective communication and enable students to complete their whole journey from enrolment to accreditation. They will be involved with meetings and events, and generally provide high level administrative support to enable the effective delivery of the Trade Union Programme.
The Person
An undergraduate degree is desirable.
A methodical and systematic approach to dealing with data as well as strong IT skills are essential.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and organisational skills including the ability to work independently are also essential in this role.
