Acute Medicine at the Princess Royal University Hospital forms part of the Acute and Emergency Medicine Division and works closely with the Emergency Department to provide acute care services on site, based in the Acute Medical Unit and the Ambulatory Unit. The post holder will work as part of a dynamic team comprising 8 Acute Medicine Consultants and 24 junior doctors.

Individuals will have the opportunity to work on the acute medical take, focusing on managing acutely unwell patients within the first 48 hours of admission, as well as more stable acute patients in the Ambulatory Unit. The appointee will gain experience managing a wide range of medical conditions and the chance to build confidence in assessing and treating unstable patients.

We are recruiting for a Junior Clinical Fellow position.

The post will be based on either a General Medicine, Adult Medicine, or Acute Medicine ward, depending on service needs. Once placed on a ward, this position is offered on a fixed-term contract for 12 months.

GMC registration is essential. NHS experience is beneficial.

This post would be suitable for any trainee who has completed a 2-year Foundation School programme or has achieved equivalent competencies, who will join at a Clinical Fellow level (MRCP Part 1 is also beneficial). Ideally trainees will have an up to date certification for Adult Life Support training, or be able to fulfil the necessary qualification upon appointment.

Although this appointment is not accredited for training through HEE, the appointee will be expected to participate fully in the many educational and training opportunities within the department and the hospital. The appointee will have a named clinical/ education supervisor. Annual leave and study leave is commensurate with other post foundation doctors.

The experience and opportunities offered would be excellent experience for applicants planning a career in any medical specialty.

Previous post holders have been successful in gaining entry to training programmes upon completion as well as completing their Royal College membership exams.

The Junior Clinical Fellow will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care within the General Medicine Care Group at Princess Royal University Hospital . The role involves providing a first-class clinical service, participating in daily ward rounds, and contributing to the assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients. The post holder will share responsibility for ensuring 24/7 cover on a rota basis, including covering colleagues' annual leave and short-term sickness. Key duties include active participation in multidisciplinary meetings, audit and clinical governance programmes, research activities, and teaching sessions for medical students and junior doctors. The post holder will comply with infection prevention and control policies, support quality improvement initiatives, and contribute to service development. They will work closely with consultants, nursing, and administrative teams, demonstrating effective leadership, clear communication, and a commitment to the Trust's values of kindness, respect, and teamwork.
