We're a UK accountancy practice looking for a capable Semi-Senior Accountant to support a mixed portfolio of owner-managed businesses, start-ups, and SMEs. You'll work closely with seniors/managers to deliver year-end accounts, VAT, tax, and advisory work, with clear progression toward a senior role..

The Role

  • Prepare year-end statutory accounts for limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders (FRS 105 and FRS 102 1A).
  • Maintain ledgers, journals, and reconciliations; produce monthly/quarterly management accounts with commentary.
  • Prepare and file VAT returns (standard, cash, flat rate), ensure MTD compliance.
  • Draft corporation tax computations/CT600s and self-assessment returns for directors/sole traders.
  • Liaise with clients as a day-to-day contact; request information, resolve queries, and agree timelines.
  • Support payroll processes (review journals, RTI checks) and coordinate with the payroll team.
  • Keep tidy working paper files, follow internal review procedures, and maintain AML/KYC documentation.
  • Contribute to training juniors/trainees and continuous improvement.

About You

  • 2–4 years' experience in a UK practice environment (essential).
  • Comfortable preparing accounts and VAT with limited supervision.
  • Qualifications: AAT qualified or finalist; ACCA/ACA part-qualified; or QBE with strong UK practice background.
  • Sound knowledge of UK GAAP (FRS 102/1A & FRS 105), basic tax principles, and MTD.
  • Software: Xero (preferred), QuickBooks and/or Sage; strong Excel (lookups, pivots).
  • Personal: organised, accurate, deadline-driven, and client-focused with clear communication skills.

Nice-to-Have

  • Xero Advisor certification.
  • Exposure to CIS, charities (SORP), partial exemption VAT, group accounts, deferred tax, or basic R&D claims.
