About us

UCL Department of Science and Technology Studies (STS) is an academic unit for research and teaching in history of science, philosophy of science, science policy and science communication. The Department aims to nurture the next generation of science communicators through its MSc degree in Science communication and a range of modules at all levels in all its programmes. Science and Technology Studies is a research-led department with an international reputation, and offers innovative teaching programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Launched in September 2022, the Science Communication MSc programme focuses on state-of-the-art professional communications, journalism and engagement expertise from around the world. It provides students with expert training delivered by world-leading and award-winning science communication professionals who are closely connected to the world of work

The post holder will work closely with the Science Commnication Programme Lead and the Department's teaching and technical staff, and will play an active role in further developing the creative and dynamic STS community.

About the role

The postholder will play an important role in supporting the Science Communication MSc and other practical modules delivered within STS.

They will maintain the department's stock of Audio-Visual Equipment and provide professional technical expertise, support, guidance, advice, and practical demonstration in film and sound recording equipment operation in relation to the Science Communication MSc, and science communication modules across the department's other programmes.

The postholder will also have the opportunity to work closely with the Digital Education team (based at Faculty level), with opportunities to collaborate with colleagues working in this area across UCL.

This is a fixed-term, full-time appointment available for 3 years continuously in the first instance, starting from November 2025.

About you

The post holder will have good knowledge and understanding of Science and Technology Studies, with a particular focus on Science Communication. Extensive knowledge and experience with state-of-the-art film and other media equipment is also required.

The post holder will normally be expected to work on site at the Bloomsbury Campus, Monday to Friday each week. Remote working will be allowed at the discretion of the line manager.
