Early Years Nursery Assistant – Small Setting, Big Heart

Woking GU NZ, United Kingdom Wonderbloom limited Full time

At Wonderbloom, we're not your average nursery.

We're a small, family-run setting that puts connection, kindness, and curiosity right at the heart of everything we do. Our team is close-knit, our ratios are low, and our approach is grounded in respect — for children, for each other, and for the work we do every single day.

We believe that children deserve adults who listen to them, speak to them kindly, and see them as capable learners with voices worth hearing. You won't find raised voices or rushed routines here — just genuine relationships, calm communication, and a shared sense of purpose.

What makes us different

Enhanced ratios and capped numbers — no chaos, no conveyor belt care. Each class has a maximum of 15 children, meaning you actually get to know them — and they get to know you. All run with extra bodies to aid your workload.

Inclusive practice that's real, not performative. Around a 1/4 of our children have additional needs (SEN), so we adapt everything we do to suit them — from sensory play and communication styles to emotional regulation and visual supports. If you love learning about how children think, feel, and communicate differently, you'll thrive here.

A culture of kindness. We treat our team the way we expect children to be treated — with patience, empathy, and respect. No egos. No gossip. Just a supportive group of humans who want to do good work and go home happy.

We have fun. We laugh — a lot. The days are busy, sometimes messy, always rewarding.

The role

As an Early Years Assistant, you'll work full-time (8 am – 6 pm, with an hour lunch) supporting children's learning, play, and care. You'll be part of a room team that plans activities, builds relationships with families, and keeps every child at the centre of what we do.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is confident, calm, and kind when interacting with children.
  • Can get stuck in with play — sand, paint, water, the lot.
  • Genuinely cares about supporting children from all backgrounds and levels of development.
  • Communicates well — with children, families, and colleagues.
  • Is open to learning — we'll train and invest in you.

Experience in Early Years is ideal, but that doesn't have to mean years in a nursery. Parenting, nannying, volunteering, or school-based experience all count. If you're ready to learn and care deeply about giving children the best start, we'll help you gain your formal qualifications (at no cost to you).

What you'll get

5.6 weeks holiday + your birthday off + loyalty days (up to 5 extra)

Free training & qualifications in Early Years

Supportive management who genuinely care

Regular team socials and wellbeing days

Free parking

Staff childcare discounts (subject to availability)

A workplace where you never take your job home — because we plan properly and support each other.

The serious bit

We're fully committed to safeguarding children, so this role requires an Enhanced DBS check, reference checks, and ongoing child protection training.

Ready to join the Wonderbloom family?

If you want to be part of a nursery where kindness isn't a slogan — it's how we actually operate — we'd love to meet you.
