Job Specification: Weekend Bakery Shop & Market Assistant

About Us: Pettigrew Bakeries are a well-regarded, community-focused bakery with 4 sites across Cardiff and regular weekend Farmer's Markets. We are committed to providing high-quality artisan breads, pastries, and coffee within a welcoming environment.

Job Purpose: We are looking for an experienced customer service assistant who is happy to work weekends, with the potential for increased hours/weekday shifts as needed. At least one shift a week would at the famous Riverside Farmer's Market so a clean driving license and comfort working solo is essential.

Reports To: Site Supervisor

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver outstanding customer service, building rapport with customers and positively representing the company.
  • Manage the market stall, including organising and transporting stock, setting up, serving, breaking down and returning.
  • Handling and counting cash in a safe and hygienic manner.
  • Maintaining an expert knowledge of the bakery's products and standards.
  • Adhere strictly to all HACCP guidelines and food hygiene protocols.
  • Prepare and serve a full range of specialty coffee beverages to out high standards.

Person Specific:

  • At least one year working in a hospitality customer service position.
  • Professional barista experience.
  • Full, clean UK drivers licence and comfortable driving within the Cardiff area (you don't need to own a car but you will be asked to work across multiple sites so you do need to be able to travel)
  • Solid knowledge of HACCP & Food Hygiene principles.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively without direct supervision.
  • Weekend availability (at least 2 of Friday, Saturday and Sunday).

Desirable Attributes:

  • Welsh Speaking.
  • Food Hygiene Level 2 Certificate.
  • Experience with Farmer's Markets or mobile catering units.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work at least two of the three weekend days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday).
  • Potential for more shifts during the week.
  • Required to stand for extended periods of time and carry heavy items as needed.
  • Required across multiple sites as needed included outdoor Farmer's Market.
  • Driving essential.
