Description

The IT department at Costain provides our corporate and project-based colleagues with core digital technology which enables us all to perform productively, collaboratively and securely.

The Infrastructure Services team provides a wide portfolio of this technology, including end-user compute equipment, on-premise server estate, messaging & collaboration tools (mainly O365) backups, patching services amongst many other things.

Responsibilities

As a Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that the team efficiently and appropriately manages all technologies supported by this team. 

Working closely with project manager and architects to assist with design and build out of new and upgrades of systems and transfer knowledge to support teams once built. 

Monitoring communications from Microsoft and other vendors of changes that will impact the company and deploying solutions that mitigate these changes. 

You will be expected to mentor other members of the team, be comfortable delegating tasks and be an escalation for them with regards to complex technical issues. 

A key focus of this role is assessing and evaluating the effectiveness of our team, technologies & processes, identifying areas of non-compliance, and recommending and implementing solutions to address any deficiencies.

Key Areas of Responsibility (including but not limited to):

  • Entra ID (hybrid)

  • Conditional Access Policy

  • Identity management (e.g. RBAC, O365 licensing, PIM)

  • O365 tenant administration

  • Monitoring upcoming changes in O365 & related technologies

  • Cyber security remediations

  • Windows Operating systems

  • Scripting via PowerShell or similar

  • Collaboration with other teams

Qualifications

Essential

  • Proven UK experience in similar role
  • In-depth knowledge of scripting (e.g. PowerShell, Python, Bash)
  • Entra ID Management (conditional access  polices, Enterprise Application 
  • Good understanding & experience of server operating systems (Windows and Linux)
  • Ability to work with other teams and system owners both in-house and outsourced
  • Hybrid cloud environments e.g. Active Directory (On-premise and Entra)
  • Have a 'secure by design' & 'Zero-Trust'  approach to IT and cyber security
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across a variety of platforms and systems
  • Experience in optimizing infrastructure performance and preventing outages
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience managing large infrastructure projects, from planning to execution
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Relevant certifications such as Microsoft MCSE, AWS/Azure. 
  • Security clearance (SC) or the ability to obtain this level of clearance

Desirable

  • Experience of AWS
  • Experience with Cyber Essentials Plus
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field
  • ITIL
  • Relevant Cyber Security qualifications
