Job Summary
As a Student Success Mentor, You will play a key role at Salt College in supporting learners with Behavioural and emotional needs, working closely with teaching staff, therapists, and families to support learners success.
Responsibilities
- Deliver targeted support to learners with EHCPs (Education, Health & Care Plans) through small group and one-to-one interventions.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with learners to foster engagement and personal growth.
- Address and manage challenging behaviour using positive behaviour strategies and restorative approaches.
- Plan and deliver Preparation for Adulthood training, supporting learners in developing independence, employability, and life skills.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and other professionals to implement individual behaviour support plans.
- Monitor and record learner progress, supporting the achievement of EHCP outcomes.
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment by following safeguarding procedures and acting as a safeguarding mentor.
- Provide regular feedback to learners, families, and staff regarding progress and next steps.
- Support the planning and delivery of Preparing for Adulthood curriculum as part of the wider study programme and additionality.
- To support student disciplinaries and implementation of behaviour support plans
- Support teachers and trainer to create strategies to support strategies to support the progress of individual learners.
- To contribute to the EHCP annual review process and lead on Personal Education Plan (PEP) meetings representing Salt College.
- Participate in staff training, meetings, and ongoing professional development.
- Extensive Knowledge and experience of working with young people with SEND conditions such as SEMH, ADHD, ODD and ADD.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
To organise and participate in staff support & development schemes and to undertake training based on individual and service needs.
To take a lead role in creating or to promote a positive, inclusive ethos that challenges discrimination and promotes equality and diversity.
To comply with legislative requirements and STL's policies and guidelines in respect to health & safety and data protection.
To demonstrate positive personal and professional behaviour as specified in the Staff Code of Conduct.
To undertake continuing professional development to support our culture of continuous improvement.
To partake in quality assurance systems.
To meet minimum relevant occupational standards.
To keep up to date with the skills required to fulfil the role.
To undertake any other duties commensurate with role and grade as may be reasonably requested.
To be responsible for protecting staff and learners from all preventable harm as per Safeguarding procedures.
To complete any assigned role deemed appropriate by Salt Training Limited.
Skills
Ability to support SEND learners with EHCPs in classroom and other settings
Skilled in delivering targeted interventions and additionalities from EHCPs
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff and external professionals
Organisational and time-management skills
Commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion
Ability to respond positively to challenging behaviour and changing needs.
Experience
Experience supporting SEND learners, particularly those with EHCPs, in an educational setting
Experience delivering or supporting interventions such as literacy, numeracy, or social skills
Knowledge of classroom-based support strategies and differentiation
Knowledge of safeguarding processes and procedures
Minimum of 2 years experience of working in a similar role with learners with SEMH challenging behavioral needs
Relevant experience of working in an education setting
Extensive Knowledge and experience of working with young people with SEND conditions such as SEMH, ADHD, ODD and ADD.
Education
Math's Level 2 (e.g. equivalent to GCSE grade 4/5 or above) or
willingness to work towards
English Level 2 (e.g. equivalent to GCSE grade 4/5 or above) or
willingness to work towards
Evidence of continuing education and training
Relevant qualification in supporting teaching and learning and/or complex behavioral support for learners with SEND(desirable)
