Hutcheon Mearns are delighted to be supporting a well-established organisation in St Andrews, Fife, in their search for a Finance Assistant to join their finance and administration team on a permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and detail-focused finance professional looking to join an organisation that offers great terms and conditions as well as busy and interactive roles. This job role offers variety, responsibility and the chance to work closely with senior colleagues on key financial processes.

You will work within a small team to support the financial administration of grants received by the organisation as part of the wider Finance team. If you enjoy a mixed finance and administration tasks where you have significant interaction with colleagues, this could be a great match for you

The Job Role

As a Finance Assistant, you'll provide essential assistance to stakeholders in the organisation providing financial information, advice and compliance in relation to grant income and expenditure. You will work within a team to ensure reporting deadlines are achieved and accurate financial record-keeping is undertaken. This role would suit an individual with experience of financial administration and record-keeping and high attention to detail.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with internal controls
  • Producing quarterly expenditure reports
  • Posting journals and reconciling accounts
  • Calculating currency conversions
  • Assisting with the preparation of audit files, audit queries and liaising with auditors
  • Preparing project costings in line with funding requirements (training provided - Excel skills essential)
  • Working closely with non-finance stakeholders to provide financial advice and analysis
The Candidate

The ideal candidate will ideally hold at least an HNC or HND Accountancy and have experience working in a busy finance function. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential, preferably with experience of large data sets.

  • Organised, pro-active and analytical with strong attention to detail
  • A confident communicator who enjoys problem-solving and supporting others
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities
An understanding of research grants, multi-currently transactions, or costings would be beneficial but not essential - full training will be provided.
