Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Sushi Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food preparation and a keen understanding of Japanese cuisine, particularly sushi-making techniques. As a Sushi Chef, you will be responsible for creating high-quality sushi dishes that delight our customers while ensuring adherence to food safety standards.

Duties

  • Prepare and present sushi dishes with precision and creativity, ensuring high-quality standards.
  • Select and source fresh ingredients, including fish, vegetables, and rice, to create authentic sushi.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen, adhering to food safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure efficient meal preparation and timely service.
  • Assist in menu development by contributing innovative sushi recipes and ideas.
  • Monitor inventory levels of ingredients and supplies, placing orders as necessary.
  • Train and mentor junior kitchen staff in sushi preparation techniques and culinary skills.
  • Include the regular handling and preparation of fish and seafood.

Skills

  • Proven experience as a cook or chef in a restaurant setting, preferably with a focus on Japanese cuisine.
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, including knife skills and sushi rolling methods.
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations and best practices in the kitchen.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • A passion for culinary arts and a commitment to delivering exceptional dining experiences.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members.
