Location: WHU Foundation Beckton office + outreach across East London (Newham, Tower Hamlets, Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Redbridge, Essex)
Join the West Ham United Foundation Team as a Youth Intervention Mentor
Do you love football and want to use it to inspire young people across East London? West Ham United Foundation is looking for passionate mentors to help young people aged 10–25 reach their potential, both on and off the pitch.
Position:Who We're Looking For
We want mentors who have lived experience or professional expertise that can help guide young people through challenges. This could include:
- Previous involvement in gangs, school exclusions, PRUs, or the criminal justice system.
- Experience supporting young people through mentoring, sports, or community projects.
If you've faced challenges and want to turn your experience into impact, we want you on our team.
What You'll Be Doing
- Deliver mentoring and football-based sessions, helping young people build life skills, confidence, and employability.
- Support young people at risk of disengaging from education or getting involved in crime.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with young people from diverse backgrounds.
- Track progress, attendance, and feedback—celebrating wins on and off the pitch.
- Respond to challenging situations and provide crisis support when needed.
- Collaborate across WHUF programmes and be flexible with evenings and weekends.
About You
- Passionate about football and mentoring young people.
- Experienced working with young people facing complex challenges.
- Able to adapt to different behaviours and environments.
- Confident communicator who works well independently and as part of a team.
Extra Skills (Not Essential but Amazing):
- Sports coaching qualifications
- Youth Work or Mentoring qualifications
- FA Emergency First Aid & Safeguarding Children certificates

Successful candidates must undergo essential background checks before starting their employment, which may include screening of social media. The type of DBS check required will depend on the responsibilities of the position and may be basic, standard, or enhanced.
The successful candidate agrees to proactively identify and respond appropriately to any concerns, and follow the Club's Safeguarding reporting procedures to report allegations of abuse, poor practice, or anything that may impact the welfare of a child, young person, or adult at risk without delay, within 24 hours, or as otherwise directed by the Club's or the West Ham Foundation Safeguarding Team.
