Senior/Lead DevOps Engineer – Manchester (Hybrid)

Hybrid:
1 day every 2 weeks in office with flexible remote working.

Salary:
£75k–£90k DOE

We're supporting a fast-growing SaaS business that's scaling organically, having just passed £1m ARR and aiming to double that over the next 12–18 months. Their platform has grown steadily alongside the business and underpins a busy field engineering operation. They now need a DevOps Engineer to take full ownership of the infrastructure, replacing a part-time consultant.

This is a hands-on role where you'll bring structure, set standards, and lay the foundations the team needs for the next phase of growth. You'll take ownership of systems end-to-end and be trusted to shape how the platform scales.

The Role

  • Own, run, and improve the AWS infrastructure that powers the platform.
  • Act as the bridge between development teams and live operations, ensuring smooth and reliable delivery.
  • Automate deployments, monitoring, backups, and disaster recovery.
  • Take a structured approach to systems architecture, defining best practices for scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Grow into a leadership role as the business scales, with the opportunity to build and manage a small team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3, VPC, IAM) and hybrid environments.
  • Build and maintain infrastructure using Terraform (or CloudFormation).
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support efficient delivery.
  • Monitor system performance, reliability, and security.
  • Oversee failover, backup, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Automate repetitive operational tasks using scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
  • Collaborate with the security lead to meet modern cyber standards.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience as a Senior DevOps Engineer in AWS environments.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS core services (EC2, RDS, S3, VPC, IAM).
  • Strong experience with Terraform or CloudFormation for Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Confident with scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
  • Experience with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, New Relic, or similar).

Why Join?

  • Full ownership of infrastructure, looking to move into serverless tech.
  • Be part of an organic growth story, shaping systems for the next stage of expansion.
  • Culture of low churn, team socials, and company-wide strategy days to keep everyone aligned.
  • Strong leadership team backing and willingness to invest in the right people early.
