Job details

By joining the University of Lancashire, you'll become part of a thriving community of talent that's united by a shared vision – to transform the lives of our students and create prosperity and opportunity in the communities we serve. Every colleague has a vital role to play in helping us achieve this vision.

About the role:

Funding through the Mackenzie Clinical Research Institute is available to enable Clinicians in substantive posts working in East Lancashire Primary Care to be hosted part-time within a University department.

This Academic Fellowship is offered through the University of Lancashire, School of Medicine and Dentistry. Applicants will continue in their substantive clinical role while completing relevant modules in either education or research through the University.

Clinicians are expected to undertake a minimum of four clinical sessions in primary care, with funding provided to cover two sessions of personal development time per week for the employing organisation over 24 months. An additional development allowance of £6,000 is available to cover course fees and academic training.

The academic attachment may include taught courses as well as participation in a research study, with the potential for journal publication for those with an interest in research. Successful applicants will be encouraged to register for modules relevant to their prior experience and professional development needs.

About you:

We are seeking a practising Clinician with a strong interest in developing an academic career. Applicants should hold a degree in a relevant subject, such as MBBS and MRCGP, MPharm (or equivalent), Nursing registration (NMC), Physician Associate registration (GMC expected by 2026), or Allied Health Professional registration (HCPC).

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to research and education in healthcare, with excellent communication and teamwork skills. You should be able to work collaboratively across both clinical and academic settings, provide evidence of continuing professional development, and share the University's values of Achieving Together, Being Proud, Creating Opportunity, and Supporting All.

Before applying, potential applicants are encouraged to make direct contact with Umesh Chauhan, Mackenzie Chair in Primary Medicine.

Applicants need to meet all essential criteria on the person specification to be considered for interview. This position is based at the Burnley campus.

What we can offer you:

Our people are our most important asset. We'll encourage you to make the most of your talents and continually develop your skills and knowledge. As well as realising your career ambitions, you'll be making a positive difference to other people's lives. We also offer a fantastic package of rewards and lifestyle benefits – from an attractive annual leave entitlement to access to a comprehensive employee benefits platform.

We are proud to be a diverse, multicultural university. We are committed to building a truly inclusive culture where diversity is championed.
