Are you passionate about ensuring that every child thrives and fulfils their potential by attending and succeeding in school regularly? Birmingham City Council is seeking a dedicated individual to join our Children and Families Directorate as an Exclusion Prevention Coordinator.
In this vital role, you will be part of the Inclusive Pathways team supporting schools and settings to prevent both permanent exclusions and suspensions. The candidate will assist in the brokerage of Early Help and Family Support in partnership with schools at the first point of need. And provide advice and guidance on the exclusions process to schools, parents/carers, LA officers and others on the prevention of exclusion.

As an Exclusion Prevention Coordinator, you will be responsible for:
- Working in partnership with schools and settings to provide advice and support on alternatives to exclusion.
- Having responsibility for assisting with advice and guidance relating to both DCSF (DfE) and LA policies on exclusion and statutory requirements
- Working across the directorate to ensure that children and families are provided with support as soon as an issue arises.
- Ensuring that individual cases are dealt with to statutory requirements and deadlines to meet the LA's obligations.
- Ensuring that administration of own caseload including document management is completed appropriately in relation to changes in exclusion legislation.
- Working proactively to promote inclusion and behaviour strategies, working in partnership with schools and settings.
- Responding to enquiries from parents/carers, schools, other Local Authority (LA) staff, Elected Members and Members of Parliament on procedures in individual cases.
- Having a child-centred approach to preventing exclusion and to bridge and broker advice and support.
- Taking full account of policies and procedures underpinning good practice and statutory duties and ensure that they are applied in practice.
- Embedding best practice in Behaviour Support Service/Special Educational Needs Assessment Service and to ensure appropriate arrangements operate.
- Participating in the provision of material for Head Teacher / Governor Training, and the delivery of such training.
- Liaising with Legal Services and other agencies in relation to changes in exclusion legislation.
We are looking for candidates with a good standard of education particularly in numeracy and literacy, commensurate with the grade of post and desirable someone who possesses two years casework experience in schools, youth services, social care or local authority services. Additionally, the successful candidate should demonstrate experience of providing advice and guidance in line with statutory procedures and have demonstrable organisational skills with experience of experience of applying procedures in relation to statutory guidance.
The successful candidate must have experience of successful planning and prioritising of own workload and the ability to work under pressure and the ability to successfully build and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders including the ability to create and deliver concise, engaging and accurate information to a number of different audiences.
The candidate must be able to effectively plan and prioritise, manage work to ensure deadlines are met and ensure robust procedures are in place to meet statutory obligations and performance objectives and have a CPD record which indicates commitment to maintaining high knowledge and skill levels.
