New Holland Dock Wharfingers Limited, part of the Howarth Timber Group, is a progressive and expanding company within a busy port and shipping-related environment situated on the South bank of the Humber estuary.

Location: New Holland Dock

Salary: £12.51 per hour

Working hours: 42.50 per week, with flexible working hours between 6:00am – 22:00

This is full time permanent role

I am looking for General Port Operative who can join our friendly and very busy Team.

This role focuses on providing a first-class service for our customers but is not limited to, timber treatment the handling and transportation of freight goods on/off vessels, HGV's, to/from storage areas and other operations such as de-stuffing of containers, unloading of engineered timber goods from road vehicles and yard/warehouse operations etc.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • To operate all plant and/or equipment correctly, reporting any defects.

  • To operate Terminal Equipment in several applications including operations, cargo movement/storage, treatment plants, despatch and goods in by road. Equipment will include, but not be limited to, forklifts, side loaders and tractor units (Tug).

  • To maintain stock information accurately when carrying out operations using written and verbal methods for recording stock movements.

  • Responsible for carrying out and record pre-shift plant/equipment checks.

  • To always maintain good communications between other Terminal staff, ensuring issues can be dealt with promptly.

  • Must always comply with all site safety procedures and requirements.

  • Maintain a healthy and safe working environment, observing good housekeeping and work in accordance with the Company's H&S policies at all times.

  • Liaise with the appropriate Supervisor to ensure the delivery of all tasks are carried safely and react to operational instructions as may be required to expedite any changes during the working shift.

  • Assist in miscellaneous duties in other areas, some of which may be of a manual handling nature, working at height and work of a physical nature.

  • Responsible for maintaining a flexible approach to working hours, be prepared to work various work patterns including extended work hours and weekend work to meet the needs of the business.

Requirements:

  • At least 1-year previous experience

  • B1 Forklift licence and experience

  • CHiPs (Cargo Handling in Ports cert) or equivalent

  • Side loader license – desirable

  • Must be flexible towards working hours

  • Must have a thorough understanding of Health and Safety in the workplace.
