Head of E-Learning

Remote, United Kingdom CST Training LTD Full time £40,000 - £60,000 per year

The Role

CST Training is seeking an experienced Head of E-Learning to lead the development and implementation of a cutting-edge digital learning strategy. This is a pivotal, single-threaded leadership role responsible for taking CST Training from a limited e-learning presence to a comprehensive digital offering that rivals our established physical and remote training.

The successful candidate will combine strategic vision, commercial acumen, and technical expertise—driving innovation in digital learning platforms, building scalable infrastructure, and leading a team of instructional designers, content creators, and technologists.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Digital Learning Strategy
  • Define and execute CST Training's end-to-end e-learning strategy in alignment with business objectives.
  • Champion the adoption of emerging learning technologies (AI, adaptive learning, mobile-first solutions).
  • Technical Leadership
  • Oversee the implementation, configuration, and optimisation of LMS platforms (e.g., Moodle) and ensure robust API integrations with CRM, HR, and compliance systems.
  • Manage SCORM/xAPI/Tin Can compliance, content hosting, and platform interoperability.
  • Ensure accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1, Section 508) and data protection (GDPR) are embedded into all solutions.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to manage system performance, user authentication (e.g., SSO), and platform security.
  • Product Development & Content
  • Lead the full lifecycle of e-learning product development—from planning and instructional design to deployment and post-launch evaluation.
  • Ensure content is engaging, interactive, and commercially viable (balancing learner experience, cost, and market demand).
  • Maintain quality assurance processes across all digital courses.
  • Leadership & Project Management
  • Recruit, mentor, and lead a cross-functional team (instructional designers, content developers, media specialists, platform administrators).
  • Deliver projects on time, on scope, and on budget using agile or hybrid project management approaches.
  • Drive collaboration across curriculum, operations, sales, and marketing to ensure commercial success.
  • Data & Performance
  • Leverage LMS analytics, dashboards, and reporting APIs to track learner engagement, satisfaction, completion rates, and ROI.
  • Use data-driven insights to refine learning experiences and inform future product decisions.
  • Innovation & Growth
  • Explore opportunities for blended learning, VR/AR, simulation-based training, and other digital-first innovations.
  • Identify new revenue streams and partnerships that expand CST's reach and impact.

Essential Skills & Experience :

  • Proven experience in a senior e-learning or digital learning leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of LMS platforms (e.g., Moodle & bespoke platforms), APIs, and system integrations.
  • Demonstrable experience with e-learning standards (SCORM, xAPI, AICC) and accessibility compliance.
  • Hands-on knowledge of authoring tools (Articulate 360, Captivate, Rise, Lectora, etc.).
  • Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams and managing large-scale digital projects.
  • Commercial acumen: building viable products, pricing strategies, and measuring ROI.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and change leadership skills.

Desirable Skills & Experience :

  • Experience in the construction training or vocational education sector.
  • Familiarity with regulated qualifications and awarding organisation requirements.
  • Knowledge of cloud hosting, data integrations, and security best practices.
  • Experience of building both accredited and non-accredited online learning pathways.
  • Exposure to advanced digital learning methods (adaptive learning engines, AI tutors, VR/AR training).
