We are seeking an experienced Finance Director to join our growing team at a critical stage of our development. This is an operational, hands-on role focussed on working capital management, financial optimisation, and securing the financing structures needed to support our rapid growth.

As our Finance Director, you will take ownership of the financial engineering required to navigate the complexities of a hardware manufacturing business with working capital requirements. This is a role for a practical operator who can roll up their sleeves and directly manage cash flow, negotiate supplier terms, secure debt facilities, and implement the financial controls that will enable us to scale efficiently.

You will be responsible for developing and managing a dynamic working capital model, securing debt and trade finance facilities, improving supplier payment terms across our supply base, and implementing invoice factoring arrangements. The role requires someone who understands the realities of manufacturing businesses and how to extract value through financing and procurement strategies.

The ideal candidate will come from a UK engineering or manufacturing company with a proven ability to optimise working capital, secure favourable financing terms, and manage supplier relationships in cash-constrained, high-growth environments.

Must-haves

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent professional qualification
  • 8+ years finance experience, 3-5 years as Finance Director or similar level
  • Proven experience in hardware manufacturing businesses, in engineering
  • Deep understanding of working capital management in capital-intensive firms
  • Demonstrated track record of securing debt facilities
  • Experience working with external lenders and managing covenant compliance
  • Experience in supplier negotiations and procurement finance
  • Strong financial modelling skills including cash flow forecasting
  • Proven ability to build financial systems and processes from the ground up
  • Hands-on experience with month-end close, management accounts
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to translate financial analysis

Highly Desirable

  • Previous experience in the renewable energy, EV, battery, or cleantech sectors
  • Knowledge of R&D tax credits and grant funding opportunities
  • Experience with MRP implementation or significant system upgrades
  • Understanding of export finance and international trade finance structures
  • Previous experience managing through venture capital funding rounds
  • Experience supporting fundraising processes and investor relations
