The role

We are a dynamic and growing civil engineering company specialising in highways maintenance, infrastructure projects, and street lighting services. With a strong reputation for delivering high-quality work across public and private sectors, we are seeking a skilled Bid Writer to help us secure new business and expand our portfolio.

As Bid Writer, you will play a pivotal role in the business development process, responsible for producing compelling, high-quality proposals and tender submissions. You will work closely with the Head of Preconstruction, estimators, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure bids are strategically aligned, technically accurate, and commercially competitive.

Role and responsibilities;

What your role will include:

• Research and analyse tender opportunities from public and private sector clients.
• Write, edit, and proofread bid content, ensuring clarity, consistency, and compliance with client requirements.
• Coordinate input from technical and operational teams to develop winning responses.
• Maintain a library of standard responses, case studies, and project references.
• Manage bid timelines and submission schedules to ensure deadlines are met.
• Support post-submission activities including clarifications and presentations.
• Monitor industry trends and competitor activity to inform bid strategy.

Who we are looking for:

• Proven experience in bid writing, preferably within civil engineering, highways, or construction sectors.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
• Familiarity with public sector procurement processes (e.g., NEC contracts, frameworks).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with bid management tools is a plus.
• Ability to interpret technical information and translate it into persuasive content.

Desirable

• APMP or similar bid/proposal management qualification.
• Knowledge of street lighting and highways maintenance terminology and practices.
• Experience working with local authorities and Tier 1 contractors.
