This is a unique opportunity to combine recruiting and empowering volunteers with meaningful, hands-on work, and to make a lasting difference in the lives of families when they need it most.

Team Jak purpose and values

Team Jak exists to ensure that no child, young person, or their family in Scotland should face cancer, related illness, or bereavement alone, and they will get the support they need during their journey and beyond.

We do this by providing emotional, social, and practical support to children and young people with cancer and related illnesses, their family, friends and those bereaved. This includes running 'Jak's Dens' in Livingston and Aberdeen and pop-up sessions in Fife and Glasgow- safe, welcoming, and friendly places where children, young people and families can be themselves, have fun and receive support. We also provide counselling, music therapy, peer support sessions and hospital outreach to engage families staying in hospital for treatment, school, and home outreach, and much more

Key responsibilities of the role:

Volunteers

  • Source and recruit volunteers who will play a vital role in enhancing the wellbeing and support of our families through volunteering from Jak's Dens and pop ups
  • Source and recruit volunteers who will play a vital role in enhancing the wellbeing and support of our families through volunteering for Fundraising activities and events
  • Support volunteers by providing appropriate induction, guidance and ongoing development and learning opportunities
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the placement of volunteers meets the needs of Team Jak
  • Develop and facilitate workshops, seminars and training sessions for volunteers
  • Continue with our Volunteer Forum and Awards and ensure we are adhering to the Volunteer Charter at all times

Fundraising Support

·      DTMAD support – liaising with corporates to confirm number of volunteers attending, source tasks and liaise with Judith to confirm availability to provide on the day support

·      YPI – supporting Fundraiser with resources for YPI

·      Taking the lead for arranging collection tin checks and emptying and canvassing

·      Event Prep – including preparation of signs, envelopes etc, the looking out of all resources prior to the event and the putting away of all resources when returned to the Den after the event

·      Source donations for raffle/tombola

·      Monitoring and issuing the sale of raffle tickets during Glow Gold Month and the Christmas Raffle

·      Contacting Supermarkets to arrange dates for bucket collections ie Asda, Tesco, Morrisons

·      Liaise with Susan Dalziel to request volunteer support for events

·      General support for the Fundraisers – this would depend on what is happening at the time and what support the fundraisers feel they need

·      Distribute tshirts and resources when ordered for in aid of events

·      Ad hoc requests for resources for talks, presentations etc

The post holder may also need to cover additional duties over and above those listed above.
