Children's Residential Support Worker

Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to join our team. The role involves providing essential assistance and care to children, ensuring their well-being and development in a safe and nurturing environment. Salary Scale: £22,000 annum. (Plus additional sleeps paid separately at £50 per sleep)

We are looking for Residential Support Workers and Waking Nights to join a brand new, three bed children's home in Leicester. You will be part of a passionate and close-knit team, creating a nurturing environment and providing consistent quality care and emotional support to our children and young people with emotional and behavioural needs.

What the role involves:

• Providing a calm, emotionally available presence for young people
• Supporting care plans, routines, and day-to-day home life
• Helping young people build confidence, skills, and independence
• Liaising with professionals and keeping documentation accurate and timely

What we are looking for:

Relevant Qualification

• Willingness to work towards or hold Level 3-4 Diploma in Children and young people's workforce or equivalent.

Experience & Knowledge

• Previous experience of working with children or young people in a residential setting (Desirable)
• Experience managing challenging behaviours and complex needs, including emotional and behavioural difficulties. (Desirable)
• Knowledge of safeguarding principles and relevant legislation (Children's Act 1989/2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2015).
• Understanding of multi-agency working and equal opportunities.
• Familiarity with the Children's Homes Regulations 2015, Leaving Care Act 2000, OFSTED inspection framework (SCCIF).
• Experience working with young people experiencing mental health issues, anxiety disorders, or specific conditions (Autism, Asperger's, ADHD, ADD, ODD). (Desirable)

Responsibilities of the role

• Therapeutic Care & Positive Relationships
• Promote and maintain a nurturing, respectful, and empowering environment for all children.
• Provide consistent routines, boundaries, and high-quality therapeutic support.
• Always serve as a positive role model, demonstrating professional standards of behaviour.
• Key Working & Support Plans
• Act as a key worker for individual young people, ensuring the implementation of personalised care plans.
• Attend child care reviews, contribute to assessments, and actively participate in young people's reviews.
• Support educational development by encouraging school attendance and helping with homework.
• Activities & Daily Living
• Develop and participate in social, recreational, and educational activities tailored to individual and group needs.
• Promote independent living skills by involving young people in domestic tasks and day-to-day decision-making.
• Collaboration & Safeguarding
• Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure young people's best interests are upheld.
• Maintain accurate records and reports in accordance with organisational policies and regulatory requirements.
• Stay informed about the latest developments, research, and best practices in childcare.
• Professional Conduct
• Work within the current legislative framework and organisation's policies and procedures.
• Engage in ongoing training, supervision, and personal development, including mandatory physical intervention and first aid training.
• Uphold the organisational commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
