DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES

To work with the Centre Manager to develop services for young people which contributes to their personal development and social education through the delivery of Leighton-Linslade Town Councils vision and corporate aims.

To support the coordination, development and delivery of good quality youth work and targeted youth support work providing information, support and guidance within TACTIC, (Teenage Advice and Teenage Information Centre) and other venues across the town, as required. To build, develop and maintain contact with young people and encourage their participation in the Centre's programme.

To assist in the day-to-day running of the Centre and its support staff, lead in the development and delivery of the work of the TACTIC on behalf of Leighton-Linslade Town Council as instructed by the Centre Manager.

  1. To build, develop and maintain contact with young people and their communities, encouraging participation in the planning and decision-making aspects of the Centre's informal education programmes in conjunction with the Youth Forum.

  2. To plan and assist in developing the Centre's youth work programme and work directly with young people, identifying their needs through both one to one work and specific group project work, as agreed by the Centre Manager.

  3. Establishing and maintaining good relationships with other relevant agencies involved in the Centre's provision of services supporting young people.

  4. Taking responsibility for the Health & Safety and safeguarding of young people for whom the service is provided; for the safeguarding of premises, furnishings, and equipment used, and for the collection and recording of monies received in accordance with Council guidelines and instructions. Give due care to the protection of young people from harm in line with Child Protection Policies and guidelines.

  5. Lead on the coordination of mentoring referrals, ensuring individuals are matched with appropriate mentors and supported throughout the process.

  6. Maintain timely and accurate confidential records, preparing regular reports, project evaluation and undertake the administrative tasks required to ensure the smooth functioning and running of the Centre.

  7. Provide young people, individuals and groups, with support, information, advocacy and assistance, in conjunction with other organisations where appropriate

  8. Be responsible for the day to day operation of the centre in conjunction with the Centre Manager and in the absence of the Centre Manager or Senior Youth Worker.

  9. Participate in training relevant to the post and/or identified by the Centre Manager and attend staff meetings as required.

GENERAL

  1. Maintain confidentiality at all times in respect of Council-related matters and prevent disclosure of confidential and sensitive information.

  2. Adhere to all internal timescales.

  3. Understand the Town Council's governing policies and procedures (in particular Health and Safety and Data Protection) and understand your responsibility to comply with the requirements.

  4. Undertake any other duties of a similar level and responsibility as may be required

  • Experience of Multi-agency working.
  • experience with mentoring and/or experience with delivery in schools.
  • Understanding of Social Education Programmes/activities, their function and development
  • Understanding of social exclusion issues and how they impact on young people's lives
  • Awareness of discrimination and its impact on individuals and groups
  • Awareness of child protection practices and procedures

Other Provisions (pro rata)

Annual leave 24 days

Annual leave after 5 years completed service 28 days

Annual Leave after 10 years completed service 30 days

Bank Holidays, plus 3 extra statutory days (in addition to annual leave entitlement).

  • Working hours will be based on a rota system and will include evenings and weekends. The Centre is open Monday to Friday 3pm – 6pm.
  • Overtime is not permitted unless expressly agreed in advance by the Centre Manager.
  • Period of Notice - one month.
