Senior QA Analyst

We are a plucky independent fully-remote video game studio primarily based in the UK, and makers of widely praised and highly-rated Galacticare and War for the Overworld. The core team has joined together from all over the world because of a shared passion for building brighter universes. Our goal is to continue creating genre-twisting 3D simulation and management games; and if we can do it with a quirkily British sense of humour, then all the better
You will be joining a highly passionate, closely-knit team of developers creating games in some of the most rewarding and deep genres - simulation, RTS and management. We aim to hire multi-talented individuals who operate autonomously, with every role hands-on and directly impacting our games.
In this Senior QA role, you set the studio's quality strategy, embed QA in planning, and lead testing from daily smoke checks through major milestones and demos. You work hands-on in Unity to design and run tests, verify fixes, track coverage and stability, and report clear, player-focused signals. You also own the build flow, defining release trains and gates, distributing builds to the team and playtesters, and continuously improving pipelines and tools so the studio ships stable, predictable releases.
QA Strategy: Define and LeadYou define how QA integrates with development and champion a quality-first mindset across the studio. You represent QA in planning, scope, and milestone discussions, collaborate closely with design, code, and art to deliver focused, player-centric feedback, and lead internal and external testing efforts from day to day smoke tests to major deliverable milestones and demos.
Success looks like
- QA goals embedded in roadmaps and rituals; QA needs represented in planning.
- Clear, actionable feedback that centers on player experience and feature completeness.
- Well-run internal and external playtests that generate insights used by design and production
- Improved performance, quality and playability due to a well implemented strategy
You own the QA pipeline end-to-end, from test design to execution and reporting, working directly in Unity to find issues and verify fixes. You create and maintain test plans and cases, execute them, track coverage, and assess build stability; you reproduce defects, verify fixes rapidly, and guard against regressions in-engine; and you communicate risks clearly with concise reporting and stability trend analysis.
Success looks like
- Comprehensive coverage per feature/milestone and fast validation loops.
- High repro precision and minimal regressions; clear pass/fail criteria.
- Stability dashboards and trend reports that guide decision-making.
You partner with production to streamline build distribution and release management while continuously improving pipelines and tools. You define release trains, gates, and readiness criteria for internal and external drops; manage low-friction build distribution for the team and playtesters; and identify bottlenecks, driving new tools and automation with engineering support, using Confluence and Jira to keep everything visible and up to date.
Success looks like
- Predictable, documented releases that land on time and meet stability targets.
- Hassle free daily build process to enable continuous team testing
- Reduced commit-to-validated-build times via automation/scripting.
- Evolving processes captured as living documentation the team actually uses.
- Excellent written/verbal communication; concise, audience-aware reporting.
- Player-first mindset; sharp on feature completeness and UX impact.
- Deep understanding of dev lifecycle and production impact of bugs/unstable builds.
- Passion for small indie teams where collaboration matters more than job titles
- Hands-on Unity testing experience.
- Methodical, analytical, detail-driven; proactive with strong time/org skills.
Experience
- 5+ years in games QA.
- 2+ shipped PC/console titles, including at least one on Unity.
Bonus Points
- Test automation, scripting, or tool creation for QA efficiency.
- Leading/mentoring internal or external QA teams.
- CS or related technical background.
- Confluence & Jira experience.
- Live-service experience.
- 100m³ of Unobtainium.
If you want to rebuild QA from the ground up and make a studio-wide impact, we'd love to talk.
