We have transformed our clinical pharmacy service across NHS Fife through an ambitious project to operate as an integrated pharmacy service across hospital, primary care, and specialist teams. This approach ensures care services are joined up Fife-wide to provide care across transitions and delivers the best possible outcomes for patients and their medicines.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced pharmacy technicians registered with the GPhC with proven post qualification experience to join our integrated pharmacy team, working across Fife as part of the Acute Services clinical pharmacy team.
There are two posts advertised. One post will be based within the surgical clinical pharmacy team, and the other within the medical clinical pharmacy team.
As a Senior Clinical Pharmacy Technician, you will play a crucial role in delivering a safe and effective pharmacy service across Acute hospital settings. Working closely with both pharmacy and multidisciplinary teams, you will ensure smooth transitions of care and support patient flow.
Your responsibilities include taking comprehensive medication histories upon admission, managing medicines throughout the inpatient stay, and supporting discharge prescriptions to maintain accuracy and continuity of care. You will also provide counselling to patients to promote understanding and adherence to their medication regimens.
You must be able to work independently or as part of the pharmacy team and wider multidisciplinary team. You will be an excellent communicator who has the ability to build good relationships with colleagues and other healthcare professionals. You should have experience of working in a clinical environment and managing staff.
Your primary site will be Victoria Hospital, but the role will require the ability to travel across Fife to cover other hospitals out with your base locations. You will also have sessions to enable you to maintain your checking qualification.
The NHS Fife Pharmacy and Medicines Directorate provides an integrated service to a population of approximately 380,000 people, with a team of around 300 Pharmacy staff, including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Support Workers, Nurses, and Administrators. The team work across Acute and Community hospital sites, General Practices, Mental Health services, and a range of specialist teams. As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
A requirement of this post is to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme Prior to appointment.
