Senior Accountant / Assistant Manager – Medium sized firm

Birmingham (Hybrid working)

£45,000 – £50,000 per annum

Butler Rose Public Practice is pleased to be recruiting on behalf of a well-established medium-sized firm of Chartered Accountants located in Birmingham. This role presents an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious and experienced Senior Accountant/Assistant Manager to join and supervise the local and outsourced team.

Role Requirements –

  • Prepare and review annual accounts for limited companies, sole traders, and partnerships, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant standards.
  • Assist with tax preparation and payroll processing, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of taxation rules and payroll regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies, maintaining high levels of compliance and quality.
  • Review work produced by junior team members, providing constructive feedback, coaching, and ongoing professional development support.
  • Monitor and manage statutory deadlines, ensuring timely submission of financial statements, tax returns, and other required filings.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for client queries, delivering clear, reliable, and professional advice.
  • Support process improvement initiatives, including the adoption and implementation of digital tools and workflow enhancements.
  • Liaise with HMRC, Companies House, and other external agencies, ensuring smooth communication and resolution of queries.

Person Requirements –

  • ACA or ACCA with post-qualification experience in practice ideally working for a small or medium sized UK based firm.
  • Strong background in both accounting and tax experience.
  • Excellent client-facing and communication skills.
  • Experienced in supervising a team and reviewing work to a high standard.
  • Commercially aware, proactive, and confident working with a diverse client base.
