This Power Platform Developer role sits within the Capability, Resource and Finance Team (CRAFT), which enables and supports other business areas. It's ideal for someone who thrives in a digital environment, enjoys creatively solving problems, and is confident engaging with senior leaders to improve processes using modern IT tools.

Job description

As a Power Platform Developer, you'll play a key role in designing and delivering digital tools that support HMRC's Risk & Intelligence Service (RIS) and wider stakeholders across the organisation. You'll build solutions that improve how teams work, solve real-time problems, and help shape HMRC's digital future.

Key Responsibilities

You will be joining our team of around 4 colleagues, key responsibilities will include:


• Design and build Power Platform solutions that meet user and business needs.

• Write clean, secure, and well-tested code using Power Query, DAX, and Power FX.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to refine and iterate digital products.

• Provide first-line support and troubleshoot issues post-deployment.

• Present and promote solutions to users and stakeholders.

• Create user documentation and gather feedback for continuous improvement.

• Identify opportunities to apply technology to business challenges.

• Support colleagues in using Microsoft 365 tools and share best practices.

• Contribute to development standards and help improve team processes.

Person specification

We're looking for someone with hands-on experience in Microsoft's Power Platform - including Power BI, Power Automate and Power Apps. You'll be a quick learner with a logical and creative approach to problem-solving, comfortable working independently and as part of a small, agile team.

Essential Criteria:

To be considered for this role, your application must demonstrate all the following:

  • Proven, practical experience in working directly with Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate).
  • Strong skills in data modelling and report design.
  • Experience working with stakeholders to gather requirements or refine solutions.
  • Ability to design user-centred solutions that meet business needs through effective collaboration and communication.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience working with Hub Slides in a Power BI format.
  • Understanding of data visualisation principles and accessibility standards.
  • Familiarity with testing procedures (e.g. unit testing, UAT).

Sift

Interview

During the panel interview, you will be assessed on your Technical Skills and Experience.

You will be asked to prepare and deliver 2 separate Presentations of up to 15-minutes each: 1 on Power BI and 1 on Power Apps. You will be assessed on these presentations and asked follow-up questions. Full details will be provided to you in advance of interview.

You will also be asked Experience-based questions to assess your experience in a particular aspect of the role.

Interviews will take place via video link (Microsoft Teams).

Hybrid working at HMRC

HMRC is an office-based organisation, and colleagues are expected to spend 60% of their working time in the office.
