JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Temporary Female Independent Domestic Violence Adviser Advocate

This is a woman only post and is exempt under schedule 9 part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

This post must achieve police management vetting in addition to enhanced DBS clearance.

Location based: to work from the IDVA office at Mansfield Police Station and to attend the Farr Centre as required.

Responsible to: Community services Coordinator / IDVA Team Leader.

Salary: £24,770 (unqualified), £26,428 per annum once qualified. (Pro rata for part time)

Hours: 18.5 hours to cover a service Monday to Sunday and evenings as required

Function: To work to provide a pro-active service to female victims of domestic abuse. To respond to and provide practical & emotional support, safety planning and early intervention where it has been determined there is high or very high risk or where it has been agreed the victim is in need of IDVA support.

Main duties

  • To work in partnership with agencies to safeguard survivors of domestic abuse
  • Provide pro-active service and advice to survivors of DVA to keep them and their children safe
  • To support on a rota basis, the north Notts Domestic Abuse partnership car, covering Friday and Saturday evenings 4pm – midnight.
  • Help survivors to maintain safety by developing their own support network
  • Refer on and arrange meetings with other agencies/services as necessary, for instance, Women's Aid, solicitors, benefit agency, etc.
  • Follow procedures and protocols with other services so that the safety of the survivor is kept central to any process
  • Keep other relevant agencies informed about important changes in survivors situation
  • Refer regular difficulties client are having to supervisor and contribute to efforts to improve procedures and service
  • Hold a case load and provide a high quality face to face and telephone intervention, provide emotional and practical support, crisis intervention, information, advocacy and support to survivors referred to the service, in respect to risk management and safety planning such as criminal and civil remedies, understanding statutory and non-statutory support services housing, health, welfare rights and children's legislation.
  • Advise survivors of their rights and options for seeking help and support from other agencies, making referrals, attending appointments with them when required, coordinating the provision of multi-agency support where necessary, and proactively advocating to ensure barriers to accessing support.
  • Proactively assess the needs and risks of survivors regularly and in line with policies and procedures, having full regard for case management, MARAC and safeguarding adults and children policies.
  • Proactively assess the needs and safety of the children in line with the safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • To be responsible for carrying out short and long term risk management, safety and support planning.
  • Work proactively and in cooperation with multi agency partners to keep survivors perspective and safety at the Centre of their support, maintain referral routes and increase access to earlier interventions.
  • To work proactively to provide a rolling programme of Domestic Abuse training and up skill professionals and support to clinical staff.
  • Attend regular safeguarding and domestic abuse meetings within the hospital and within the IDVA team.
  • To provide an easily accessible source of expertise and support to individual clinicians in the management of individual cases as required.
  • Act in a professional manner at all times.
  • Ensure that case recording is to an excellent standard and monitoring systems are kept up to date and secure.
  • Proactively look for and implement innovative and creative ways of engaging vulnerable and hard to reach survivors, particularly those with multiple needs, and sustain the engagement.
  • Participate in multi-agency conferences and meetings in respect of the children and adults at risk as required, providing reports and undertaking necessary actions.
  • Participate in multi-agency working in respect of the MARAC attending both North and South Nottinghamshire MARAC'S and other MARAC's as required, providing the research, attending the MARAC and presenting the cases, and taking the action agreed from the MARAC.
  • To support Community Services Coordinator to collate and contribute to annual service reviews which include monitoring data, evaluations, intake and output policy, and practice and work load reviews for the whole service.
  • Understand multi-agency partnership structures and work within a multi-agency setting which will include participation at the MARAC. You will contribute interventions and help design a plan to protect victims and any children, while maintaining an independent role on behalf of your client, keeping their safety as central to any response.
  • Keep the team leader/ Community Services Coordinator informed of any issues and successes.
  • Be responsible for personal learning development and keep up to date on research, relevant legislation, policy and practice, and other literature relevant to the project.
  • Participate in supervision, annual appraisal process, training and meetings as required and work as a member of the team to ensure effective delivery of service and individual work plans.
  • Produce data, reports, and evaluations and undertake research as requested and directed by the Community Services Coordinator.
  • Ensure the personal information for clients, members of staff and all other individuals is accurate, up to date, secure and confidential at all times in compliance with GDPR and the Data Protection Act 1998 and advance policies and procedures.
  • Work across teams and undertake such other duties, appropriate to the grade and character of the work, as may reasonably be expected.
  • To attend and participate in team, project and trustee meetings as required.
  • To participate in the development and review of Nottinghamshire Women's Aid Ltd policies and procedures
  • To work within the ethos, values and principles of Nottinghamshire Women's Aid Ltd and WAFE (Women's Aid Federation England).
  • To understand and abide by all Nottinghamshire Women's Aid Ltd policies and procedures including Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety, Child Protection and Confidentiality.
