The role:
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR Manager to join our growing team in this newly created role. As Solarport continues its rapid expansion and strengthens its position as a market leader in renewable energy infrastructure, this role will be pivotal in shaping our people strategy, driving forward-thinking HR initiatives, and ensuring we remain pioneers in how we support and develop our colleagues.
This is a stand-alone role reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer, with close collaboration with the Board and senior leadership team. There will be scope to grow your team as we scale. The HR Manager will play a critical role in talent management, employee development, performance management, and ensuring the effective integration and retention of our diverse workforce across engineering, operations, commercial, and project delivery functions. You will work closely with our ESG Manager to embed sustainability and wellbeing into everything we do, helping to create a workplace culture that truly makes a difference.

What you will do:
Talent acquisition and integration
- Collaborate with our Office Manager, hiring managers and recruitment partners to ensure the seamless onboarding and integration of new employees across all levels and functions, supporting our ambitious growth plans.
- Support our new comprehensive induction programme that reflects Solarport's values, culture, and commitment to ESG principles, ensuring every new colleague feels welcomed and empowered from day one.
Employee support and wellbeing
- Provide dedicated support to employees who are absent from work due to family leave, sickness, sabbaticals, or other reasons, ensuring smooth transitions and successful reintegration
- Act as a trusted advisor to employees and managers on workplace matters, employee relations, and wellbeing initiatives, championing a culture where colleagues feel valued and supported.
- Work closely with our ESG Manager to champion mental health, diversity, and inclusion initiatives across the organisation, driving meaningful change and innovation in colleague wellbeing.
Performance management and development.
- Support directors and managers in addressing performance matters sensitively and constructively, including capability management and performance improvement plans.
- Develop and implement development plans for high-performing employees, including succession planning for key roles and management positions, ensuring we nurture and retain our top talent as we grow.
- Design and deliver innovative learning and development initiatives that support career progression and skills development aligned to business needs, helping our colleagues reach their full potential.
Employee transitions
- Manage employee transition processes with professionalism, care, and compliance, ensuring a positive experience even during times of change.
- Conduct meaningful exit interviews and analyse feedback to identify trends and opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Ensure all contractual, financial, and confidentiality matters are resolved in a timely and respectful manner.
Remuneration and reward
- Support the Remuneration Committee and annual salary review and bonus processes, including planning, communications, preparation of documentation, and providing clear rationale for remuneration decisions that recognise and reward colleague contributions.
- Advise on market benchmarking, pay equity, and competitive reward strategies to support talent retention and ensure we remain an employer of choice.
- Develop remuneration statements and reports for senior leadership review, ensuring transparency and fairness.
HR projects and initiatives
- Provide project support to the Board and senior leadership team on people-related initiatives aimed at building a high-performing, engaged workforce that drives our ambitious growth.
- Partner with our ESG Manager on forward-thinking projects such as employee engagement surveys, policy innovation, and ESG-related people initiatives that position Solarport as a pioneer in the renewable energy sector.
- Drive continuous improvement in HR processes, systems, and employee experience, always seeking new ways to enhance how we support our colleagues.
Strategic advisory
- Act as a trusted advisor to the Board and senior leadership team on all matters related to people management and organisational development, helping to shape our growth strategy.
- Provide insight and recommendations on workforce planning, talent strategy, and organisational design to support our ambitious scaling plans and maintain our position as industry pioneers.
- Present regular updates on key HR metrics, trends, and initiatives to senior leadership, demonstrating the impact of our people-first approach.
Compliance and governance
- Ensure compliance with UK employment law, health and safety regulations, and company policies across all people-related processes, maintaining our high standards as we grow.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and UK GDPR-compliant employee records and HR documentation with meticulous attention to detail.
- Support the development and implementation of HR policies, procedures, and employee handbooks that reflect our values and pioneering culture.
Collaboration and stakeholder management
- Work closely with legal, finance, operations, project management, and engineering teams to ensure alignment and consistency in people-related processes across our rapidly growing organisation.
- Build strong working relationships with external partners, including recruitment agencies, occupational health providers, employment law advisors, and pension providers, ensuring we have the best support for our colleagues.
- Foster a collaborative, approachable HR function that supports the business and its people effectively, embodying our commitment to colleague wellbeing.
What we are looking for:
Essential experience and knowledge
- Strong HR generalist experience, ideally within a project-driven or high-growth environment.
- CIPD Level 5 minimum (or equivalent professional HR qualification).
- Strong understanding of UK employment law and HR best practice across the full employee lifecycle.
- Proven expertise in managing complex HR processes, including performance management, employee relations, and organisational development.
- Experience supporting senior leadership teams and providing strategic HR advice in a growing business.
- Ability to work autonomously while also collaborating effectively across multi-disciplinary teams.
Desirable experience:
- CIPD Level 6 qualification (or equivalent professional HR qualification).
- Experience within the renewable energy, construction, manufacturing, or engineering sectors.
- Familiarity with ESG principles and integrating sustainability into people practices.
- Experience managing HR in a rapidly scaling business where innovation and pragmatism are key.
