Strategic Insights Director

London, Greater London, United Kingdom Experian Full time £80,000 - £120,000 per year

We are seeking a visionary and commercially astute Strategic Insights Director to lead our Insights & Analytics team. This role is pivotal in shaping the strategic direction of our business by delivering actionable insights that drive growth, enhance customer experience, and inform decision-making across the organisation.

As a member of the senior leadership team, you will report directly to the Managing Director and collaborate closely with stakeholders across Marketing, Technology & Data Platform, Finance, Product, and Servicing. You will be responsible for transforming complex data into compelling narratives that influence strategy and execution at the highest levels.

You will be accountable for setting the strategic direction for the analytical and reporting capabilities of our internal data platform and will work closely with our data engineering team to help guide effective and accurate data collection and transformation practices.

Core responsibilities

  • Leadership & Data-Driven Strategy
  • Lead and inspire a team of 15–20 data and analytics professionals, fostering a culture of curiosity, collaboration, and excellence.
  • Be the voice at company leadership level that drives a business-wide understanding of the value of high-quality data, data ownership, and insight-based decision making.
  • Define and execute the strategic vision for insights and analytics aligned with business goals.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the Managing Director and executive team, providing thought leadership on data-driven strategy.
  • Data Platform Strategy
  • We are currently modernising our data Lakehouse platform, investing in best-in-class software solutions and advanced architectural patterns.
  • You will be a key strategic stakeholder in design and investment decisions, with direct accountability for ensuring the platform meets the organisation's needs for data-driven decision-making.
  • You will take ownership of the layers of the data platform that enable high-quality data analysis, insight generation, reporting, and dashboarding.
  • You will ensure that the right tools and the right data are available to your team and to the wider business through self-service capabilities, enabling efficient and reliable access to information.
  • You will be responsible for delivering a simple and well-organised platform that serves not only technically skilled teams, but also non-technical areas, leveraging generative models and platforms to provide accessible insights and strategic guidance across the organisation.
  • You will lead data governance efforts, promoting data quality, lineage, and risk management in collaboration with partners in risk, compliance, and audit.
  • You will also be accountable for developing cutting-edge platforms and frameworks powered by Large Language Models (LLMs) to uncover insights that may not have been previously considered by teams, driving not only current knowledge but also enabling the formulation of new, unasked questions that expand strategic thinking.
  • You will work closely with data engineering and product teams to ensure that upstream data collection, ingestion, and transformation processes are effective and aligned with business needs.
  • You will actively promote best practices in data governance and data quality across the platform, ensuring trust and confidence in the data used throughout the organisation.
  • Insight Generation & Storytelling
  • Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights that inform business strategy, product development, marketing effectiveness, and customer experience.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of customer behaviour, market trends, and competitive dynamics.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Business Partnership
  • Partner with Marketing to optimise campaign performance and user segmentation.
  • Collaborate with Technology and Data Platform teams to ensure robust data infrastructure and governance.
  • Work with Finance to support forecasting, performance tracking, and ROI analysis.
  • Support Product and Servicing teams with insights that enhance user experience and product innovation.
  • Implement an effective and scalable business partnership model between the Insights & Analytics team and each of our product domains; refine/evolve this partnership model in response to feedback and changing business needs. This is to ensure that each product domain has ongoing access to analytics expertise that is both deep (brings domain expertise) and broad (brings best practice and tooling), giving your team members opportunity to make business impact while being part of a Centre of Excellence data community.
  • Operational Excellence
  • Oversee the development and delivery of dashboards, reports, and advanced analytics models.
  • Ensure best practices in data quality, data governance, data security, privacy, and compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement in analytics methodologies, tools, and processes.

What would success in the role look like?

  • Insight-Driven Strategy: Business decisions across Marketing, Product, and Servicing are consistently informed by high-quality, timely, and actionable insights generated by your team.
  • Team Excellence: The Insights & Analytics team is recognized as a centre of excellence, with high engagement, strong retention, and a reputation for innovation and impact.
  • Stakeholder Trust: Key stakeholders (e.g., Marketing, Technology, Finance, Product) view you as a strategic partner, regularly seeking your input to shape their roadmaps and priorities. Product domain teams are well supported through the business partnership model, growing their impact for consumers and unlocking new business opportunities.
  • Consumer Understanding: A deep, data-driven understanding of consumer behaviour and needs is embedded across the organization, leading to measurable improvements in acquisition, retention, and satisfaction.
  • Operational Impact: Your insights lead to tangible business outcomes—such as increased revenue, reduced churn, improved campaign ROI, or enhanced product performance.
  • Data Maturity: The business has a robust data infrastructure and governance model in place, with clear data definitions, accessible dashboards, and consistent use of metrics.
  • Innovation & Foresight: You proactively identify emerging trends, risks, and new growth opportunities, helping the business stay ahead of market shifts and consumer expectations.
