Part of the EFS Group, we are a well established Haulage company based in Heathfield, East Sussex working with the UK's most successful network, Palletways. ILS Ltd are one of the largest pallet delivery companies in Kent & East Sussex, collecting & delivering over 600 pallets a day.

Due to growth, we are currently recruiting for Transport Manager, to join our dedicated and experienced team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of transport services by optimising resources and fostering effective collaboration across the operation.

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily transport operations, ensuring all deliveries are completed safely, on time, and to customer standards.
  • Lead, support, and develop the transport team, managing performance, absences, and communication.
  • Maintain compliance with transport laws, driver hours, vehicle checks, and Tachograph infringements.
  • Monitor costs and identify efficiency and savings opportunities.
  • Champion health & safety and ensure a safe, compliant working environment.
  • Monitor and report transport costs in line with performance KPI's, identifying opportunities for cost saving.
  • Maintain up-to-date records for audits and ensure readiness for any inspections, internal audits, and external compliance reviews.
  • Lead regular internal compliance checks and implement corrective actions where necessary.
  • Ensure all transport documentation (e.g., driver logs, maintenance records, training certificates) are accurate, complete, and stored securely.
  • Champion a safety-first culture across the business, promoting proactive hazard identification and risk mitigation.
  • Conduct regular safety briefings and toolbox talks with drivers and operational staff.
  • Investigate all transport-related incidents and near misses, producing detailed reports and implementing preventative measures.

Key Skills and Requirements

  • CPC Qualification (National/International)
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or team-leading role within a transport or logistics environment.
  • A good understanding of transport regulations and fleet management.
  • Good Understanding of pallet network distribution
  • Proven experience in transport management, with responsibility for overseeing a medium-sized distribution network, is essential

This is a full-time position, with working hours from Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 18:00, and at least one (1) Saturday per month. subject to business requirement. The role holder will be responsible for the on call phone, from 18:00 to facilitate any driver issues.
