Shift Leader – Residential Care Home for Young People

Location: Chorley

Hours: Full-time / Shift work (including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins)

Service: Residential Children's Home

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Shift Leader to join our dedicated team supporting young people in a nurturing and therapeutic residential care environment.

As a Shift Leader, you will play a key role in leading the team during your shift, ensuring the home runs smoothly and that young people receive the highest standard of care and support. You will act as a role model for staff, promote positive routines and relationships, and maintain a safe and supportive environment.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead and care staff during allocated shifts.

  • Ensure daily routines and support plans are followed effectively.

  • Complete and review all required paperwork, reports, and records to a high standard.

  • Conduct thorough handovers between shifts to ensure effective communication.

  • Safeguard and promote the welfare and wellbeing of young people at all times.

  • Support and guide staff, providing supervision and mentoring where required.

  • Work closely with the Registered Manager and senior team to uphold the home's policies and ethos.

  • Respond to incidents and emergencies calmly and professionally.

About You

  • Experience working in a residential childcare setting (essential).

  • Minimum Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent), or willingness to work towards it.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions.

  • A caring, resilient, and child-centred approach.

  • Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and sleep-ins.
