Role Purpose

Support Workers play a vital role within our Ofsted-regulated provisions, offering safe accommodation and structured support to young people aged 16–18. You will work within established policies, procedures, and local Pathway guidelines to ensure the highest standards of care and regulatory compliance, including adherence to the Supported Accommodation (England) Regulations 2023 and Ofsted Quality Standards.

Working under the direction of the Registered Service Manager, you will:

· Deliver a person-centred, flexible, and responsive service.

· Act as a Key Worker for allocated young people, delivering regular key work sessions focused on goals, progress, and wellbeing.

· Hold and manage a caseload of young people and ensure all documentation is kept up to date.

· Complete comprehensive Needs and Risk Assessments.

· Develop, review, and implement individualised support plans focusing on independence, life skills, and positive outcomes.

· Support young people in preparing for their next steps within the Young People's Pathway or into independent living.

· Promote young people's rights, voice, and active participation, ensuring they have access to advocacy services and understand their entitlements.

Principal Responsibilities

· Safety, Welfare & Environment

· Monitor the premises to maintain a safe and secure environment, including welfare checks and room checks.

· Ensure visitors comply with all safeguarding, entry, and exit procedures.

· Respond appropriately to emergencies, including fire safety, first aid, and crisis situations.

· Identify, report, and respond to safeguarding concerns across all levels of risk, following statutory guidance such as Working Together to Safeguard Children.

· Maintain communal areas to a high standard and report maintenance issues promptly.

· Young Person Support

· Provide emotional support, reassurance, and guidance to young people.

· Assist with crisis intervention, helping young people manage distress or dysregulation.

· Encourage and promote independence, supporting life skill development such as budgeting, cooking, routines, hygiene, and self-care.

· Build positive, professional, and trusting relationships with young people.

· Use de-escalation techniques to manage and reduce challenging behaviour.

· Support young people to access and sustain education, training, and employment (ETE) opportunities.

· Help young people attend and engage in appointments, activities, and structured routines.

· Promote young people's participation in all decisions affecting their lives, ensuring their views and preferences shape their support.

· Multi-Agency Collaboration

· Work collaboratively with social workers, personal advisers, education providers, health professionals, police, CAMHS, housing teams, and other relevant agencies.

· Share information appropriately in line with safeguarding, confidentiality, and GDPR requirements.

· Attend professional meetings, reviews, and multi-agency planning sessions as required.

· Professional & Administrative Duties

· Record all incidents, observations, interactions, and key work sessions in line with policies, confidentiality standards, and Ofsted expectations.

· Complete clear and detailed handover reports to ensure continuity of care between shifts.

· Support young people with welfare benefits, rent, budgeting, and tenancy-related tasks where appropriate.

· Follow all safeguarding, confidentiality, data protection, and professional boundaries guidance.

· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and remain compliant with the Supported Accommodation (England) Regulations 2023.

Experience & Skills Required

· Experience working with vulnerable young people and a strong understanding of Every Child Matters framework.

· Knowledge of best practices in supporting young people with:

· mental health challenges

· substance misuse

· physical or emotional health needs

· offending or risk-taking behaviour

· gang affiliation or exploitation risks

· antisocial behaviour

· Confidence working in high-pressure environments and supporting individuals with complex and challenging behaviours.

· Experience completing and reviewing Risk Assessments, Needs Assessments, and Support Plans.

· Experience engaging hard-to-reach or chaotic young people using trauma-informed and relational approaches.

· Understanding of the principles of high-quality support within an Ofsted-regulated setting.

· Ability to encourage young people to develop life skills and engage in meaningful activities.

· Good IT skills for recording, reporting, writing minutes, and producing professional documents.

· Strong numeracy and literacy skills to assist young people with budgeting, benefits, and tenancy responsibilities.

· Willingness and ability to work a flexible rota, including weekdays and weekends.
