Care Home Assistant Practitioner (CHAPS) – Nights
Location: Maldon CM9
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £13.50 per hour
About the Role
We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Care Home Assistant Practitioner (CHAPS) to join our team. You will support high-quality care delivery for residents living with dementia, Alzheimer's, and physical health conditions. This role involves leading the care team during night shifts under the support of the Nurse on duty, ensuring safe, person-centred, and effective care.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
- Lead and support the care team during the shift.
- Supervise day-to-day care duties and ensure best practice is followed.
- Conduct staff supervision and support new Senior HCAs and care staff through induction and competency checks.
Training & Development
- Deliver in-house training sessions.
- Work with management/HR to identify staff training needs and promote continuous development.
Resident Care & Clinical Support
- Support with personal care, bathing, grooming, and daily activities.
- Administer medication under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Complete clinical observations including vital signs, skin checks, wound care support, catheter care, and diabetes monitoring.
- Ensure safe manual handling, infection control and CQC-aligned standards.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate, thorough care records.
- Complete reports on care plans, risk assessments, MCA/DoLS compliance, and staff documentation.
- Ensure effective, thorough handovers between shifts.
Health & Safety
- Promote excellent health and safety practices.
- Ensure all mandatory training is completed.
- Advocate for residents' dignity, equality, and individual needs.
Mandatory Requirements
- CHAPS qualification (UK only).
- Minimum 12 months experience as a Senior Carer or CHAPS in a care home.
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (minimum).
- Strong communication and leadership abilities.
- Ability to deliver direct training.
- Empathy, professionalism, and excellent judgement.
- Able to manage conflicting priorities and work independently.
