Group Compliance Manager

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Line Management
- Lead, mentor and develop a small team within the risk and compliance function, providing support, coaching, and clear objectives
- Oversee daily workflow, allocate monitoring and onboarding tasks and ensure timely delivery of key compliance activities.
- Build a positive, high-performing team culture that champions good conduct, fairness and continuous improvement.
- Support professional development including training, performance reviews and progression planning.
- Contribute to building a strong risk and conduct culture across the group.
Policy Development & Regulatory Interpretation
- Own the drafting, maintenance and enhancement of key compliance and conduct policies.
- Conduct horizon scanning and assess regulatory changes, presenting practical impact assessments to the Group Head of Risk and Compliance and senior stakeholders.
- Translate FCA requirements (MCOB, SYSC, Consumer Duty, etc.) into operationally clear guidance for business areas.
Onboarding & Due Diligence Oversight
- Oversee onboarding processes for advisers, intermediaries, introducers Group and partners.
- Lead due-diligence reviews and maintain robust fit-and-proper and partner oversight frameworks.
- Ensure all checks and assurance processes are carried out consistently and documented appropriately.
Regulatory Liaison
- Operate as the lead regulatory contact, supporting responses to FCA requests and supervisory interactions.
- Coordinate the collation of information for regulatory reporting, thematic reviews and audits.
- Maintain a structured approach to regulatory engagement and ensure consistent messaging.
Risk & Conduct Management
- Maintain and update the compliance risk register (in collaboration with the Group Compliance & Oversight Manager).
- Lead specialist reviews relating to conduct risk, onboarding risk, partner oversight and operational compliance risks.
- Support Consumer Duty monitoring, outcome testing and evidencing fair customer outcomes.
- Identify and escalate emerging risks promptly.
Compliance Assurance Support
- Contribute to monitoring activity by undertaking themed reviews within your areas of expertise.
- Support remediation plans, actions and follow-ups.
- Provide feedback and training to the business on findings and good practice.
Skills & Experience
- Experience in a compliance, conduct or risk role within a UK mortgage lender, brokerage or network.
- Strong understanding of FCA Handbook requirements relevant to mortgages.
- Experience managing or mentoring specialists; ability to lead and manage stakeholder relationships
- High level of analytical ability and sound professional judgement.
- Experience with policy writing, risk assessment, due diligence, or regulatory liaison.
- Relevant qualifications desirable (CeMAP, ICA, etc.).

- Clear-headed, structured, and confident handling specialist risk topics.
- Able to collaborate effectively with a senior compliance lead without overlap or conflict.
- Skilled at bringing clarity to technical regulatory matters.
- Forward-looking, curious and comfortable balancing detail with practicality.
