Interim Project Accountant / Data Analyst

Exeter, Devon

£40,000 – £45,000 per annum

Our client, a well-established organisation entering a key phase of growth, is seeking a detail-driven Interim Project Accountant/Data Analyst to join their team on a full-time interim basis.

As the Interim Project Accountant/Data Analyst, you'll play a central part in bringing structure, clarity, and analytical rigour to a critical data project. Working within a specialist finance team, you'll cleanse and validate financial data, ensure costs are accurately mapped, review allocation methodologies, and create clear, audit-ready documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Break down and interpret large volumes of financial data sourced from the general ledger.
  • Review how costs are allocated and confirm they're routed to the appropriate categories and business areas.
  • Ensure cost groupings are correctly aligned to the required regulatory framework.
  • Engage with teams across the organisation to clarify cost drivers and verify data accuracy.
  • Create concise, well-organised documentation that clearly explains calculations, reasoning, and processes.
  • Identify irregularities, resolve data issues, and escalate anything that requires deeper investigation.
  • Work collaboratively across departments to understand spending activity and constructively challenge any gaps, assumptions, or inconsistencies.

The Candidate:

  • Solid background handling general ledger information and navigating cost centre structures.
  • Strong grasp of cost allocation concepts and the drivers behind them, such as headcount, activity volumes, and revenue.
  • Comfortable working with sizeable, intricate datasets and motivated to dig into the detail to understand the story beneath the figures.
  • Skilled at producing clear, well-presented written documentation suitable for audit and review.
  • Naturally inquisitive, confident in asking questions, and unafraid to challenge unclear or incomplete data.
